Randall Gay on IR

Saints placed CB Randall Gay on injured reserve due to recurring concussion symptoms, ending his season.

Practice squadder Quincy Butler was signed to take his roster spot. Gay has suffered multiple concussions over the past few seasons, creating some skepticism about his future in the league. The 28-year-old nickel back is due a $2.5 million salary in 2011. The Saints began the season as perhaps the NFL's deepest team at corner. They're suddenly among the thinnest with Gay gone and RCB Tracy Porter still nursing a torn knee ligament.

Get well Randall!!! Concussions are not to be taken lightly.

Very true that Pat Robinson has been improving really quickly, when hes on the field you can see what Coach Payton talks about his explosive change of direction and speed out of the breaks.
No offence to randall gay, but i honestly thought he was about 35 because he plays kinda slow. We need tracy back desperately, is Reggie jones on the practice squad still? Leigh torrence is admittedly the same type of corner that randall gay is.

Son of a Hooker!

The Saints secondary is so deep now that while its a major blow its not the end of the world, now they get to see what Patrick can do at nickel, just think if he was to outplay Porter and Tracy is our nickel ... damn

Told ya'll drafting a CB this year was a good idea.

Ok, I never really said that but I woulda had I known.

Yep... I agreed with ya on that one. Don't we still have Reggie Jones on the practice squad?

Jenkins can play CB too.

biloxi-indian 10-20-2010 03:43 PM

According to Payton, Jenkins is not going to be moved to CB.

jeffduncantp Payton said Malcolm Jenkins will stay at free safety despite the spate of injuries at cornerback.

jcp026 10-20-2010 03:47 PM

Where are Mark Parson or Reggie Jones? Who's this Quincey Butler?

haven't we learned by now to NOT listen to just about everything Payton says when it comes to injuries

LBCutta 10-20-2010 04:20 PM

Hope he gets well. The league is really taking concussions seriously finally. I remember when a kat would get a concussion in 1 series and come back out on the field the next..

st thomas 10-20-2010 04:30 PM

same thing every year, it gets no better just more expensive for the rule breakers

I like Robinson but his tackling reminds me of MM.....leading with the shoulder and not wrapping up the ball carrier.

MatthewT 10-20-2010 05:40 PM

Sure looks like Randall Gay's career with the Saints is now over. As bad as he looked after his latest ding, dude maybe should consider hanging it up and calling it a career.

If it's in the 1st round that would make it 3 years in a row. Personally I would like to see us get a really, really good LB. I don't care whether he comes in the draft, trade, FAcy, UDFA...or from under a rock...I want him!!

...but he better not be a bust. :)

I feel very sad that Gay will be out for the season. Do not forget, he was absolutely instrumental in changing the entire momentum, direction, and tone of the Saints first playoff game last year. He forced the first postseason turnover when he stripped Jerheme Urban after a short pass reception from Kurt Warner. Darren Sharper recovered the fumble and the Saints offense went ahead 14-7 following a quick touchdown drive off that fumble. Therefore, I am extremely grateful to Randall Gay for making that phenomenal play against the Cardinals.

QBREES9 10-22-2010 11:18 PM

Take you time Randall and get well. You have been great for the Saints.

Indeed. Without that fumble caused by Gay, the game could have had an entirely different outcome. After the Saints scored after the fumble, it really seemed to take all the wind out of Arizona's sails. They never were the same after that, and the Saints never took their foot off the Cardinals throat.

i think he will have a long hard look back at his carrer and may be very content to walk away proud of what he has accomplished. whatever he decides is great by me. he's a homer and we don't ever forget homer's.
