Brees on the Bench

I like to ask the controversial questions. Ill ask another.

Should Brees have been benched against the Browns.

Before you go hiring a hit man to find me..... I am not saying he should have been benched for his play this season, or in the Browns game. I am saying he should have never taken a snap in the Browns game.

I do not know Brees personally, all I know is what I read and hear like most of us. I know from what I have read and heard him say he takes a lot of pride in being a good father. That being said, I expect he has had about 2-3 hours sleep a night since the birth of his son. As any father would have had in the last 4-5 days.

If he were well rested yesterday I would have had to question his participation in his new born child for the last 4 days.

He is also a Champion and not one to say no. Payton should have benched him so he could take a 4 hour nap and get back to his wife and new born. Let Chase Daniel handle the Browns.

I am a dedicated and loyal Saints fan to the core. However that child comes first as it should, and i suspect the lack of rest is why Drew preformed so badly. Bad judgment, under thrown passes, look of frustration, all the tell tale signs of tired.

Kyle Orton was down by a bazillion and kept going back out there. If Payton would've pulled Brees, he probably would be asking for a trade today, IMO.

Edit- Sorry, I went back and read again, and you were asking if he should've sat out the game because of a baby. No. Favre played after his dad died.

As angry as i was with his lackluster performance yesterday, hes still the SB MVP and the guy we look to for answers, so i gotta say no to benching him. HOWEVER.....coach payton needs to do something big to shake this team up, because i don't like where we are going. I'm not a bandwagon fan by any means, but at this rate i don't need us getting any better than an 8-8 season unless we go out next week and keep the Steelers on their back heels all game and show them why we are the defending champs, even if we manage to lose to two rookie QB's that get their first career wins against us
Coach payton does not seem as aggressive this year and that really bugs me, drew was throwing ill advised passes trying to get something going. I don't blame him for trying to get a spark going, but even in 2008 when we had no running game and no defense, he still had better games than that yesterday.

"Ryan......INTERCEPTED....going back the other way with Jabari Greer......TOUCHDOWN....KILLER TOUCHDOWN for the saints!!!"

Nope... People are missing the point. If you have children than you know what is like the first week. Mom is still recovering, baby is up every 4 hours to feed, family and friends are visiting and calling to find out information.... It is probably more of a physical stress than a mental stress.
Sleep and naps that first week can be few and far in between. We use a 5 hour flight to an away game as a reason players are tired and road games are difficult. Multiply that by 10X and you have the first week with a new born. Even if you have help or a nanny, a new parent does not sleep worrying and checking on the baby.

I can defend my decision with out smart assed comments. As I stated, my vote and question has nothing to do with his performance this season. If we were 7-0 I would have still benched him because I know his azz would have been worn out from the week.

Nope...don't buy that. I've had 4 kids and the only thing that kept me up was the crying. I do worry about my kids when I have a reason to...but unless I'm mistaken, the baby is fine.

I would think that Drew has a big enough house to find a quiet bedroom, and I know he has enough money to hire help...so I personally don't see how you can use that as an excuse.

From what I have read about his character. He is not one to run to a quiet part of the house. He is one to be right next to the crib, hands on. I have two daughters, 5 and 2, I had children later in life at 37 yo. I was there every minute I was not physically at work.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The fact of the matter is that he looked tired, preformed like he was tired both physically and mentally. I do believe he set his career high for interceptions (he has never thrown 4 interceptions in a single game before), and had one the worst games I have ever seen him have. There is a reason, and I doubt it was because the grocery store was out of his favorite cereal. Just sayin....

I agree with you 100% on that one.

However he threw a Career high 4 interceptions, none of which If I recall correctly can be attributed to receivers playing "tip drill" lol.

This. This reminded me of the AZ game where the oline got sissy whipped. Drew was running around the entire game and in the NFL, if you get to the QB you win the game.

The four INTs: on one Betts runs an out instead of an in. Another was a deep throw "punt" at the end of the first half. Another was a tip at the line then the ball bounced off a Saints players back and back into the hands of a Brown.

The last one was just him pressing.
