1st Visit to the Dome!
 

I'm making my very first trip down to the Big Easy from Jersey with a Steelers fan (boo!) in tow.

Give me some advice on:
1) Where to get 'good, authentic' New Orleans grub?
2) Where to party pre-game/ post game?
3) Best watering hole in general?
4) Taxi or Rental car?

Staying in the Garden District if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In on Saturday and gone on Monday? How much time do you have?

Late night post game food at Coop's Place on Decatur. You can't beat it. It is a local hangout. Small, inexpensive and really good. Their Supreme Jambalaya is my favorite, made with rabbit, sausage, shrimp and tasso! Dang, I am getting hungry just thinking about it.

Mother's, on Poydras, is another great fixture for food, but it closes early and must be a non-game night or pregame meal.

The Gumbo Shop is another favorite of mine in the Quarter. It is on St. Peter near Pat O'Briens.

Cafe Maspero, on Decatur near Jackson Brewery Mall, is a great place for lunch and serves fried foods and a great roast beef poboy. They only take cash, though, so be prepared. Also very affordable. All of these places have Abita beer varieties on draught.

There is also a Deanie's Seafood in the Quarter on Iberville near the Acme Oyster House. The Deanie's in Bucktown is better, but the one in the Quarter isn't bad at all. Once again, very affordable and huge servings.

The Acme Oyster House is great, but usually pretty crowded. It is a bit more expensive, but their grilled oysters are to kill for! Once again, Abita beer is a must.

The Dome is an easy 20 minute walk from the Quarter. You just follow the crowd and they'll lead you right there. You just head west, across Canal which borders the Quarter and take a right on Poydras and keep going until you hit the Dome. We usually park in the public lots at the quarter. It'll run $20, but is the easiest way to work it.

At least you have Prejean's there in Lafayette. Another of my favorites.

there good, i personally like mulates in breaux bridge or soups in maurice. there all good. deanies is one of my favorites in buctown met willie rolfe once down there

1)Good food - You'll be in the food Meca: Mike Anderson's, Landry's, Ruth Chris Steakhouse, make up your mind once you get there
2)Pre-game - Definitely the Dome Plaza Post-game - Just hit the Quarter and play it by ear
3)Best watering hole - Most every hole has good water
4)Taxi/Rental - Forget the rental if you are short hopping from airport/Garden District/French Qtr/Superdome areas but bring some good walking shoes. Depending on how much fun you have, you might not want to drive.
Live it up! See if you can do something about spanking some Steeler Azzzzz while you're there.

Coop's is near the eastern end of the quarter, but well worth the walk. There is a good Irish pub, Molly's at the Market, next door that makes the walk even more worth it. They are down by the French Market.
