Saints face a desperate Panthers team
 

Sunday we will find out if the Saints have learned a painful lesson, that being not to take down-trodden teams with unproven quarterbacks lightly, as they did in losses to the Cardinals and the Browns, and during a slim 2-point victory over Carolina as a 13-point favorite the first time around.
Because the Panthers as they are currently constituted give the Saints every reason to do so.

In Jimmy Clausen, who started against the Saints in week four, and Matt Moore, whom they've come back to out of desperation, the Panthers have quarterbacks who have combined for 13 interceptions, four lost fumbles, and a quarterback rating of 54.3.

Carolina is the league worst in turnovers (23), points per game (12), yards per game (251, first downs, interceptions and turnover differential (-10).
They are next to last in passing yards and rushing yards. They have been out-scored 45-9 in the first quarter.

They are so desperate for offense that the incredibly conservative coach John Fox, who usually runs a "tea party" offense, opened last week's loss with a flea-flicker, which was intercepted. And he ran wide receiver David Gettis on a first quarter reverse. That lost 11 yards.
That's how desperate the Panthers are to manufacture points, having scored 10 points or fewer in four of their seven games. They are on pace to score 194 points this season – 59 less than they scored in their worst offensive season in 2001.

That was George Seifert's last as the Panthers' head coach. This will most likely be Fox's farewell too. His teams have always played the Saints tough, but a Saints loss to this Panthers team under these circumstances would be the saints' worst of the season.

We seem to have trouble with these teams with poor records, It's almost like we look past these games. It looks like SP toys around with the game plan and in the end tries to make these great comeback wins. It's almost like he sold the concept to Brees maybe they have this inside bet going on. Sometimes that Juicy Fruit can have strange affects on a man.

There is no excuse for us not to win today. That doesn't mean we will win, only that there is absolutely little excuse for us to lose
