New Orleans Saints beat the Carolina Panthers

The Saints rolled up more than 400 yards of total offense.

This game was never really a contest as the Saints jumped on the Panthers early and if not for a flukey interception early in the first quarter, the Saints would have had a shutout.

It was another week of dominant defense, with Roman Harper, Sedrick Ellis, Leigh Torrence and Jeff Charleston getting sacks.

The Saints are now 6-3 with a bye week coming up. Carolina dropped to 1-6.

Here are the game updates:

0:23: Steve Smith caught his first pass of the day. This is how this game has gone for the Panthers.

3:51 Chase Daniel came into the game for his first playing time that wasn't a hold. This game has gotten ugly. The Panthers are getting routed and the Saints have suffered several injuries, and this was a team that was trying to get injured players back on the field.

Daniel was sacked for the first time with 1:01 left.

8:12: Ladell Betts took it in from 1-yard out and the Saints are just pouring it on now. It's amazing how bad Carolina is this season. A once-proud defensive unit has put up very little fight against the Saints today.

9:07: It was announced that Darren Sharper has a hamstring injury and Chris Ivory has a shoulder injury. Neither will return in this game.

14:15: New Carolina quarterback is Tony Pike, the rookie out of Cincinnati.

Jeremy Shockey is back at the stadium after being taken to the hospital. We have to assume his injury isn't serious. We'll update when we find out.

0:15: Leigh Torrence, the man who had a big interception against Pittsburgh last week, just sacked Carolina quarterback Jimmy Clausen. Torrence isn't a flashy player, but he's steady and solid when he's in.

0:41: We called it in this week's Black and Gold report, the Saints were going to get a defensive touchdown. Jabari Greer intercepted a Jimmy Clausen pass, and weaved through traffic for a 24-yard touchdown return.

Greer had missed two games with a shoulder injury. You can really tell a difference in how much better the already good Saints defense is with Greer and Tracy Porter, who was back after missing four games.

8:59: We spoke too soon. Instead of taking it in for a touchdown, the Saints settled for a 36-yard Garrett Hartley field goal. On third-and-goal, the Saints lost eight yards on a swing pass to Jones. Brees probably shouldn't have thrown it, Jones had no chance.

9:04: Julius Jones has a sure touchdown, but didn't drag his back foot as he was going out of bounds. Saints have put together another solid drive, mixing run and pass, and are on the verge of putting the finishing touches on the Panthers.

More like "Stepped on and never took their foot off the throat of the Carolina Panthers"

I loathe Carolina.
