Does Brees name deserve to mentioned in league mvp discussions?

Based on his performance this
year so far?

dizzle88 11-16-2010 03:26 PM

I love the guy, but based on performance this season and compare it to last season i don't believe so.
He's been great the past 2 games, but the memories of the mistakes he made vs cardinals, browns and falcons are there too. He was snubbed the league MVP last year, when he easily outplayed Manning (both in the season and in the SB)
If he was to go on an absolute tear then i wouldn't be suprised his name comes up, but he made some real dumb mistakes to start with that are very uncharacteristic on him.

well he is ranked 4th; only Peyton Manning, Kyle Orton, Phillip Rivers lead him so far...

Danno 11-16-2010 03:36 PM

Not so far, too many picks and he hasn't been dominant at all. Our defense has been responsible for most of our wins so far.

biloxi-indian 11-16-2010 04:08 PM

The short answer is; NO not in the first 9 games. However, there are still 7 games ahead and if he plays "lights out"...then maybe another vote is warranted!

NOLA54 11-16-2010 04:26 PM

He didn't get it last year so why would he get it this year.

st thomas 11-16-2010 11:25 PM

he would have to go lights out. then he did'nt get it last season when he deserved it more. they may make up the bad error like a payback flag. damned zebras

lumm0x 11-17-2010 12:42 AM

On our team....maybe. For the league....not a chance.

CashAndFlash 11-17-2010 01:31 AM

Who knows...if Reggie comes back and we tear it up, then he might...

504state 11-17-2010 04:16 AM

He is definitely our all time MVP hands down.

I would have to add Malcom Jenkins in the discussion for this years team MVP.

since it's obviously in your nature to try to dictate the tone of every discussion you start and/or join, let me explain this to you:

saying "he is our only superbowl mvp" is a reference to our past, and strato knows this. anyone who reads at or above a fifth grade level should not need this explained to them. dude.

edit: oh, and if you come after me for this, you're barking up the wrong tree. I'll be asleep long before you get back to this, assuming, that is, that you're not still up trying to avoid taking out the trash or whatever else some woman has told you to do tonight.

Danno 11-17-2010 06:52 AM

That brings up another good topic.

Based on what we've seen so far this season, who is our MVP?

Obviously QB's are the most valuable position on a team, so maybe a better question would be

Who's playing the best football on our team right now this season?
Roman Harper?
Lance Moore?
Malcolm Jenkins?
Sedrick Ellis?
Drew Brees?

Harper is doing a great job. Big Remi too!

And Brees as lauge MVP, I would love for it to happen but he hasn't been that good consistently trough out the year. But say we play a couple of tight, highscoring games against the Ravens and Falcons for eample and he passes for a ton and are the deciding factor in us winning, then yes it could happen.

If Harper didn't have concrete for hands he might be the leading pro bowl vote-getter at SS in the league.

black&gold84 11-17-2010 08:16 AM

My vote would have to go to Jenkins. He has played at a very high level at safety and corner and gave us some much needed depth that ensured we did not have much of a drop off when our starters went down.

CashAndFlash 11-17-2010 09:17 PM

Dude.

skymike 11-18-2010 07:07 PM

this season aint over.

UK_WhoDat 11-20-2010 01:13 PM

The answer is NO and not yet.

No because he has faltered very un-Brees like in some spectacular and for me painful ways this season. OK he maybe carrying some injuries and he is missing some key personnel but that is not the concern of those discussing MVPs

Not yet because the season is "just" halfway-ish.

From now on the MVP elect will stand up higher than the rest. I could still be Brees but I sense an old rival in different clothing making a severe challenge to that ckaim.
