Bush’s return should provide immediate impact

Time to get Reggie Bush(notes) back on the field in New Orleans. According to reports, the running back expects to play when the 5-4 Seahawks travel to the Superdome on Sunday to play the 6-3 Saints.

Let’s discuss this for a moment, because I do see Bush’s return to the lineup as a major upgrade to Sean Payton, Drew Bress and this New Orleans' offense. Forget about numbers or the box score, because when you have a dynamic player like Bush on the field, the game plan—and the play calling—will change. That is the advantage we are talking about for the Saints moving forward.

Bush is what I like to call a “matchup player.” Not a true No.1 in the backfield and not a player who is going to see 20-25 touches a game. Instead we are talking about using that player in space, removed from the core of the formation and aligned in formations (bunch, stack, motion) that give him a free releases against a SS, LB or No.3 CB. Plus, we can’t forget the screen package that Payton brings to every game (shoot and bubble screen) and the edge runs out of the backfield.

Bottom line with Bush: he gives you options. And he forces defenses to prepare differently throughout the week and make sideline adjustments to keep pace with the multiple looks and schemes that he brings to the table.

As a former defensive player in this league, weapons like Bush cause unwanted stress—in meetings and on Sundays. The impact will be there and it will be evident when we turn on the tape. Because certain players bring that dynamic feel to the stadium.

I am looking forward to seeing Reggie back on the field.

As a side note; I live in Dallas and will not be going to the game next Thursday. I went to the Titans/Cowboys game and found the obscene jumbo screen so distracting that I could have stayed home and saved $640 for 2 club seats and had a better experience in my media room.

May take Reggie some time to get back to speed. And do you cut one of the fill in backs.

Good question. Who goes inactive? Or was Reggie not being counted? I really should know this.

?

Sorry, but Ladell Betts should go inactive. I've been waiting for Reggie all season! The Heisman garbage is behind him, his leg is getting better by the day and now, well, bring on the wood.

Betts is the odd man out. He really hasn't produced after his rehab like I had hoped. I don't think he's seen any playing time lately......in fact I was wondering if he had already been released.
Reggie takes a little bit of time to work into his rhythm. I don't expect to see too much of him this week.

In the past Reggie hasn't done so well in his first game back from injury. It's almost been like he's trying to hard. Relax. Let the game come to you Reggie! WHO DAT!

i'd use him like a decoy at first...

lull the other team, then toss reggie a screen.
