How bout Hartley?

Think he kicked his career longest this game. Gotta give him props for the kicks.

73Saint 11-25-2010 11:14 PM

He still has this look like, "geezus, I hope I don't miss," and "holy sh--, I just made it."

I'm no less nervous than I was before w/him. And, I STILL do not understand why Morstead isn't kicking off.

Lol I said the same thing during the game. Yea he made 2 nice ones today but he is still on my **** list.

pherein 11-25-2010 11:54 PM

I couldn't be more happy for the guy, hope he keeps his job:)

As I have stated in other posts, doesn't have a link but, I read that Morstead does not kick off because of the injury he had to his groin. The coaching doesn not want to risk aggravating the injury. And seeing him BOOM that 64yd punt I can se why.

Thought Hartley did a good job today, days like this is why I'm so high on him. He has a tremendous leg and I feel pretty confident he will just gett better and more consistant.

CashAndFlash 11-26-2010 02:14 AM

Hartley is clutch. His weakness is that if the weight of the world isn't on his shoulders, he gets lost.

He'll get better.

Interesting fact from the Ap game article: Hartley, Daniel, and the new LS all went to Southlake Carroll, just south of the stadium and in the town where payton lived while with the cowboys. So it goes from the hand of one assumed Cowboys fan, into the hands of another, off the foot of another, 50 yards through the goalpost. pretty cool.

UK_WhoDat 11-26-2010 01:08 PM

An enigma

skymike 11-26-2010 01:08 PM

I've been on the "ax Hartley" wagon myself, but I can happily admit.

This, aside from the NFC Championship, was the game of his career.

He was nails on everything, and his kickoffs were deeper, and better than anything I've ever seen him do.

The scariest play of the game to me was his extra point after Lance's TD, and he nailed it. His kicks were flat-out pretty, and he lost that knuckleball look his kicks have always had in the past.

Maybe be just needs more national spotlight, and extra pressure.

Superb game, Garrett. Bravo!!!!

The overtime chip-shot kick against Atl wasn't weight enough?

That was the joke in my house last night!! He's always just as surprised as the rest of us when he makes it! But by god, he did what he gets paid to do yesterday! Thank you Hartley!

st thomas 11-26-2010 04:01 PM

he's passed the test for another game or 2 lol

dizzle88 11-26-2010 04:07 PM

I'm still gunna hold my breath everytime he takes a kick, that is until he proves me wrong and shows real consistency.

st thomas 11-26-2010 04:20 PM

IF HE KICKS THE FIELD GOAL THAT BEATS THE CLOWNS AND WE WIN THE SOUTH AND HOME FIELD AND BUYS ME LUNCH, THEN WERE EVEN.LOL

Aikman and Buck were all over this during the game. Every time the field goal unit went out in the first half, including extra points.

Boutte 11-26-2010 05:22 PM

Last year everyone of his kicks were straight dead center. He obviously has a technique problem when he's pushing those kicks left so why hasn't someone on the staff been able to show him what the problem is (was)?

MatthewT 11-26-2010 06:49 PM

I will at least try to give Hartley some benefit of the doubt. He had Brunell holding last year. I know this is no excuse, for the most part the holding hasn't been a visible problem, but we never know with these head case kickers. What we can assume is over the course of the rest of the season is Hartley is going to be counted on to win some games. I really hope whatever the issue was/is, is now corrected or will be quickly.

wow, I guess I was listening to them even less than I thought I was...

QBREES9 11-26-2010 09:19 PM

Hartley lives to see another day. He had a great game.

His hook was gone. They were straight as an arrow.... That right post no longer has paint on the inside of it though...

ScottF 11-29-2010 08:27 AM

Good game, but the scars are still there from Atl and Ariz. The short misses vs Sea & TB didn't hurt us, but...

I think the only reason he is still here is that SP wants some stability. Guarantee that we see competition in training camp

neugey 11-29-2010 09:12 AM

Maybe all the dissing and questioning of Hartley we did helped. I say we keep it up, see if it works again!

TheOak 11-29-2010 10:14 AM

Since the NFl has no minor league like Baseball, can we send him to the CFL or Arena Football until he is consistent again?

He leaves me with the feeling that is similar to driving a car that has a seat belt that sometimes works and some times does not....

saintfan 11-29-2010 07:41 PM

Not likely

Beastmode 11-29-2010 08:27 PM

He's a young kicker, what is he 24. Most of the vet kickers have 10-15 yrs experience and they still miss random easy kicks. He started out shaky but he's back on the wagon now. It would be great to see him kick the game winner against Atlanta but we will have a 20pt lead in the 4th.

cablebandit 11-29-2010 08:48 PM

He's still with the Saints because SP knows a helluva lot more about football and the personnel available than we do

TheOak 11-30-2010 08:07 AM

I posted a thread about what I have figured out...

With 10 attempts away and 8 attempts st home, when he is 90% for away games, and 50% in The Super Dome.... There is a glaring discrepancy in his consistency based on location.

All of his other situational 2010 stats vary no more than 25%... Be it score margin, distance, game qtr.... The only explanation is this guy has issues kicking at home. Why he has problems at home I have no idea but he does.

skymike 11-30-2010 08:20 AM

Its like Devery, I guess. You ever notice, you cant throw a pass straight to Devery's hands, or he'll drop it...

... but if he's upside down falling backwards with the ball coming to his knees, while two safeties are hitting him.... its a catch!

Gonzalez and Turner have to be chomping at the bit.

I actually agree with you here Magic, at least on Harper. Gonzalez was obviously gunning for him last game, and he didn't handle it well.

Saintswrath 11-30-2010 10:07 AM

Im glad he's doing what he was brought in and paid to do.. kick and kick between the poles.

darstep 11-30-2010 03:13 PM

Just keep it up, and keep that curve ball straight.

Rugby Saint II 11-30-2010 06:32 PM

I'm still going to be nervous when he gets on the field.........I hope he isn't.

man you clobbered that, the heck with the nail on the head.:-D

skymike 12-06-2010 04:16 PM

We Hou-Dats were in Ragin Cajun yesterday, and whenever Hartley lines up for an extra point, everybody goes... "Shhhhh! Shhhhhhh!" and holds up crossed fingers. `
