Interesting on Hartley

We all know there is something amiss with Harleys consistency. Some games he is the Ace, some games he is the Joker. Since Sean has labeled him as "Our Guy" I thought I would dig into his stats and find out if I could find any relevant stats that would tell a story of what to expect in the upcoming games. I know a lot of us thought it was a distance issue. Maybe it is... Distance from his HOUSE!

In his 3 year Career he has kicked 35 field goals.

Made:
Away = 24
Home = 11

Missed:
Away = 2
Home = 5

2010 Season:

Made:
Away = 8
Home = 4

Missed:
Away = 1
Home = 4

His accuracy by game location and year:
2010 50% at home and 90% away!!!!!!!!!
2009 66.7 at home and 87.5 Away
2008 100% both home and away

His Grass numbers are also better than his turf numbers.

Going purely by stats.. If we get home field advantage by a stroke of luck... Or in this case bad luck. Odds are not good.. Also we are screwed if it comes down to a field goal for TB or STL.

Interesting that his away percentages are better than his home percentages.
John Carney's accuracy went to hell when they switched the dome turf to the newer product, ultimately leading to him losing his job. Before that, he was pretty much money.
I don't have any stats to back it up, but that's what I seem to remember happening.

Nice fact. If other kickers have struggled in the SD the turf could be a factor but you would also have to break down stadiums with the same turf. You could really digg in the weeds on the subject. I always say train like you are going to fight so why not practice in the SD that week.

Actually Carney's last year he played 16 games (full season) with the Saints was 2006, that year he had 92% FG accuracy!
They have used Sportexe Momentum Turf since 2006.

The only teams that use Sportexe Momentum Turf.
Ravins Cundiff 83.3% at home for 2010
Saints Hartley 50% at home for 2010
Vikings Longwell 100% at home for 2010

Very interesting. If this continues I wish we could platoon Hartley with another kicker who kicks well in NOLA!

ClintSaints 11-30-2010 02:30 PM

Thanks for the stats! That means this coming weekend against the Bungles should be good times for sure!

darstep 11-30-2010 02:35 PM

Only give him Point Afters. Score touchdowns everytime and take his flux out of the equasion. I said it before and will say it again: leave him alone if he misses here or there. Trying to bring in some guy off the street just turns dirty water into mud. There is a reason why those other guys are watching games from their living room.

Carry two FG kickers? One home and one away?LOL

We may need both.... If we get HFA when the stars align, we will need someone who can hit that "fkn Fleur De Lis".

When we get to Dallas for SB 45 Hartley can bang it down Jerrys throat all day.

CashAndFlash 12-01-2010 07:51 AM

I really think having two FG kickers isn't as preposterous as it may seem.

I mean, on any given team, FG kickers account for a minimum of what, 30% of points scored? We've got three qbs, 5 wrs, 4 tes, and 3 running backs who are supposed to account for the lion's share of the rest, but it really might work to bring someone like Carney in for the shorter ones and keep Hartley for the long ones.

Experience and consistency for the chip shots, youth and leg strength for longer ones.

I know this will never happen, but hey, it could work.

Well, those facts certainly don't support my opinion. Your facts must be wrong... just kidding. Good info, thanks for posting it!

Any time.... Boredom brings about creativity some times lol.

I wonder what his stats are like in bad weather? Ultimately those kicks could be the most important.

TheOak 12-01-2010 05:01 PM

I would have to bust out some Almanacs to figure that out.... However... He cant kick over 50% in the Super Dome with perfect weather..... I am not sure weather is that big of a deal unless we are talking 40 mph winds...

Hell, if we had a 50 mph right to left wind in the dome his kick would hook so bad it would smack him in the face.

Great stats x626xBlack. I guess Brees/Payton and the Saints have a great chance of going 4-1 in the failclowns nest when we play them.

UK_WhoDat 12-03-2010 05:56 PM

Bizarre!

So what about Thomas Morstead for home games........ :thinks:
