Wednesday I'm flying to NO for the first time ever to catch the Falcons game. I need some local ideas on good places to eat and visit. Any comments would be appreciated. Keep in mind I'm bringing my wife....so don't direct me to ever nudie bar in town....I'll get to those once I ditch her in the mall.

I live about 50 miles from New Orleans and have been to many resturants there. Those are my favorites. And stop by Larry Flint\'s Club.

If you like Dixieland jazz, don\'t miss Preservation Hall. I\'m a tourist when I go to NO; I\'ll let the locals tell you about places to eat. I do like the Napoleon House for lunch: good po-boys. But I\'m sure there are better options out there.

Two Sisters is overrated IMO, like many places in the French Quarter.

Grew up there. I highly recommend Jacque Imo\'s. If you want something truly New Orleans try Tujaques on Decatur right off of Jackson Square. Of course, Antoine\'s ain\'t bad either. Billy was clutch on Brennan\'s too. If you need some late night eats, nothing is better than the grill (Camelia Grill - right at the St Charles/Carrolton intersection). There\'s plenty of great seafood out on the lakefront, and if you just want good food that isn\'t uniquely NO, I think Five Happiness is the best chinese food I\'ve ever had by far.

If you\'re gonna be a tourist, be a tourist. Catch the Riverwalk and obviously, spend your time in the Quarter. I\'d take a carriage ride - they\'re a pretty cool way to see the Quarter, just make sure that you only believe half of what they say (that\'s generous). Ride the street car (that\'s STREET CAR lumm0x, not trolley) up through the Garden District or take a Garden District tour. And no matter what happens, just don\'t bet anyone that they can\'t tell you where you got your shoes... (on your feet). PS - I\'m considering a trip down Bourbon is a given.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. In the if you don\'t mind dropping top dollar catogory:

Clancy\'s,an uptown classic, not very flashy but great food, expensive but not ridiculous. The owner is seriously connected in the sports world so lots of the pros dine there with old school locals.

Cuvee, There execituve chef just left to open his own place but the new chef has maintained the high standard well. A small and very intimate dark atmosphere, very nice and very expensive. Great wine list, a little french heavy and pricy but damn good. Not a N.O tradition but one of the best new spots in the city.

If you want the old guard Commanders is tough to beat. A little too stuffy to be my favorite but a New Orleans institution for sure, great service and consistant cooking, a complete dining experiance it never fails. Best sunday jazz brunch in the city( if your wife is\'nt going to the game). If you want to go, make reservations now, its the most popular restaurant in the city and for good reason.

If you don\'t want to spend as much:

Jacques-Imo\'s is a good call. Funky rough service definatly casual but great creole soul food and a good time ,another uptown favorite.

Irene\'s: the food is a italian creole fusion thats great, the atmosphere is nicer than jacques-Imo\'s but still a little funky, it\'s in the Quarter so the price jumps a bit as well but it\'s still cheaper and far better than a lot of it\'s pricer competition. Out of this world oyster dishes. Oh yea they don\'t take reservations

For lunch:

Mothers: yea it\'s touristy as hell but locals flock to it too ,it\'s great southern food and a good New Orleans experiance. crowded at prime lunch hours very casual downtown in the CBD on the same street as the dome.

Uglesich\'s- a total hole in the wall, crowded at prime lunch hours but a real Cajun creole eats spot. you\'ll see anyone from the mayor to a street cleaner eating there, hard to explain but very local and very good.

Damn, I should have talked to you guys before my last trip down there. I did Brennans. I paid handsomely for an open-faced egg mcmuffin ( LOL ) and had fried Banannas...absolutely incredible! I had the best red beans and rice I\'ve ever had in some little hole-in-the-wall place behind the Hilton on Canal Street. One thing I\'ve learned about eating in New Orleans is that it\'s really hard to go wrong! Enjoy the trip lummox.

One last shout out to you Lumm. I take it by bringing your wife you\'re not trying to impress her but if you want a fine dining experience, Commanders Palace was mentioned on here. I have been there once, experience is the only way to describe it. At one time it was ranked in the top 10 restaurants in the world. This place was the cats britches.
Have fun, if you like oysters, try Felix\'s oyster bar in the Quarter.
