Who does Brooks remind you of?

Question: Which current or former NFL quarterback does Aaron Brooks most resemble in his playing?

My answer is Brett Favre in his early days. I remember people talking about how much talent Favre had, how great his arm was and how well he could buy time with his feet. On the other hand, he was criticized for poor throwing technique (throwing off his back foot) and poor decisions (forcing throws into tight coverage and getting intercepted). The other thing about him (then AND now) is he obviously treats the game as a game and has a lot of fun on the field.

Seems to me that AB has a lot in common with the younger Favre (though AB's decision-making has been much better this year than in the past). I've never liked Brooks much until this year, but I've got one foot on the bandwagon now. The biggest hole in my argument is that Favre had immediate and sustained success in terms of winning games and leading his team to the playoffs nearly every year. However, maybe we have reason to hope that Brooks will soon develop into a Favre-like fixture on this team. Hopefully it's just a matter of him settling into a playing style that is loose enough for him to perform but tight enough to allow the team to succeed.

He reminds me a lot of Randal Cunningham. Tall, lanky, good arm, runs well, at his best improvising, but with a quicker release and not quite as big though.

The one quarterback I\'m really excited about is Aaron Brooks in New Orleans. That young Jedi Master is going to be a big star and he has the most upside potential. For years, the Saints have been known for their great defense. Now their defense might not be what it used to be, but once they settled on Brooks as their quarterback, they took off.

Brooks has the swagger and confidence to get it done. He\'s a guy who can throw and run and has that John Elway element. I got to study Elway on film and enjoyed watching him play our defense because it was so fun, and I have to say that Brooks\' approach and release remind me so much of Elway.

That article was written over one year ago, and was during the time of the season where the offense was clicking on all cylinders. Thought I would post that, for no other reason than to get some people riled up by the connotation :P

Jim Miller is a bit harsh. He had like a 9 yard game last season.

I think he\'s got loads of potential but so did Kordell. That\'s who he reminds me of. He won\'t be Favre unless he\'s in the playoffs this season. But he undoubtedly has the talent.

Not Jim Miller, huh? OK, how about Danny Worthless?

That\'s a bit rough as well. The receivers play a huge part in this as well. He gets the ball there most of the time but has his faults. Let\'s see how this weekend goes.

How about ...Drew Bledsoe?

Lots of potential. Can have a really great game followed by a very poor one. Brooks is more mobile, of course, but he rarely uses that ability anymore.

This is a little off the subject, but here is the QB draft class of 1999. Let\'s see how Brooks stacks up to the rest of the class.

Aaron Brooks
Tim Couch
Daunte Culpepper
Donovan McNabb
Kevin Daft
Joe Germaine
Brock Huard
Shaun King
Graham Leigh

Aaron Brooks
TOTAL 49 46 1557 872 56.0 10755 6.91 69 75 49 116/747 143 32 80.5

Donavan McNabb
TOTAL 63 57 1916 1076 56.2 11340 5.92 70 76 45 169/1078 138 21 77.0

Daunte Culpepper
TOTAL 51 50 1593 997 62.6 12006 7.54 78 80 55 131/692 159 31 88.0

Tim Couch
TOTAL 57 56 1633 984 60.3 10569 6.47 79 61 65 156/1064 122 25 75.1

Above shows the career stats of the QB\'s. The case could be made that Brooks has out perfomed all of these QB\'s except Culpepper. Brooks went to a team that was a very bad team. Unlike Culpepper who had Cris Carter and Randy Moss. In any event, considering we got Aaron for a very low draft choice, I think we are very lucky to have Brooks. This guy didn\'t walk in to a situation where he was asked not to lose games. He was expected to carry the team. Which he\'s done about a good a job as you can ask, considering our defense has sucked for the past few years.

He reminds me of Tony Banks. Take a look see at what Banks did the last time he played. Brooks will make this team nothing more than marginal EVERY year. Look at his win/loss percentage. Mark it down, call your bookies, the Saints will finish 8-8 this year because our qb is about as consistant as a fake Rolex.

badshirt 11-13-2003 03:47 PM

Remember that the team has had a not so stellar first half of the season. If they ends this season the way they started the last 2 then Hasselbeck is also a harsh call.

He\'s better than Culpepper. Culpeppers receivers have just been better at holding the ball. He can make great things happen with this team. It\'s just how long do we have to wait.

If he doesn\'t blow it up here under Haslett just wait. Maybe in another place or with another coach.

I still can\'t believe that Jim Miller comment. Whew! Tough crowd. Ha ha.

Hey all you Brooks\' bashers. Y\'all need to come up with some really good material to make Brooks look bad. Just make up some stats on Brooks. Talk about games from a long time ago and state as FACT that Brooks lost us those games. No one will remember. Don\'t forget to mention that Brooks is smilin\' after each loss. Oh, maybe you can bring up his IQ being really low also. Those are just a few suggestions, but if you get really creative, I bet you can come up with all kind of stuff --

Okay . how\' this for stats. For the years he has started the Saints have gone:

4-4
7-9
9-7
and this year to date
4-5

Oh yeah, he\'s a stud okay. I just hope they get his jacket size right for his induction into Canton.

You have this ability to make things sound believable and the next thing you know, you\'ve got folks on here agreeing with you. It\'s gotta be the tang. There\'s just no other explination for it. ;) Just make sure you check their I.D. -- Will ya? At least give the young kids a fighting chance.

Well after all this time I finally think I figured out who AB reminds me of. It\'s either one of two people.

1. Dan Pastorini- when he\'s good he\'s very good but when he\'s bad he\'s very bad.
2. An ex-wife- can\'t live with her, can\'t live without her.

Joe, do you think part of the reason she is an ex-wife is because you watched too much football? Or, you compared her to NFL quarterbacks?? ;) J/K

Chandler is still too much. Although listening to the first half this weekend I was with you for sure.

I still think he\'s capable of good things. This Eagles matchup will tell alot. I\'m just tired of hoping that the good Saints show up. I know they can beat the Eagles if they step it up. It\'s so frustrating.
