Shanle

the guy had a horrible horrible horrible game. we need to seriously upgrade next to vilma during the offseason.

BIGEASY504 12-05-2010 03:55 PM

I would have kept Scott Fujitia and let Shanle go

foreverfan 12-05-2010 04:04 PM

Give the Bengals some credit. They played a great game. That was their SuperBowl.

|Mitch| 12-05-2010 04:18 PM

I Agree!

Speedy Ron 12-05-2010 05:29 PM

please refer to him as ****le. hate the guy

SaintPauly 12-05-2010 05:44 PM

I have to say that the defense as a whole, pretty much stunk it up today. Vilma changing the defenses, and Palmer picking them apart. Greer getting owned, and Porter making mistakes in the secondary... No push up front, from the line. They made some plays when we needed them, but the game itself, should never have been that close.

biloxi-indian 12-05-2010 06:59 PM

Shanle has lived out his usefulness! Time for an UPGRADE.

We play keep playing like this we could wind up missing the playoffs.

C17-BING 12-05-2010 08:55 PM

504state ... Give me a break --- we aren't going to miss the playoffs. Personally, I tend to be a pretty "subjective" fan, but you my friend ... You are the ultimate pessimist when it comes to the Saints.

Do you sleep well? EVER!?!?!?!?!??!

There is a Finnegan on ever forum...

Patricia985 12-06-2010 03:53 PM

I have to agree, this guy kept missing tackles all day yesterday. I knew it the minute Scott Fujita left that we would have an issue with Shanle. We let the wrong guy get away.

Rugby Saint II 12-06-2010 04:01 PM

I don't think Shanle could get any slower.

winmill1 12-06-2010 04:06 PM

This has to be Shanle's last year. Has to be.

st thomas 12-06-2010 04:12 PM

i really think the front office blew this one.in an uncapped year and already busted on reggies contract, why not go all out for a change and keep one of the most intellegent players on the team. it was'nt all fujuta that cost us the browns game but he sure contributed.and some of the acquisitions did'nt make the team and are not producing like we want. i'm not bashing nobody we just did'nt replace a missing force.

If we keep playing like this we can win another Super Bowl. We are facing the best every team can throw at us and still have an excellent 9-3 record. The Bengals won their division with a team that wasn't even as good talent wise as this year's version. Lessor teams (ie. the Falcons) would have have several of those games.

This is the NFL we are talking about. Every team is capable of beating any other. The better teams are the one that can overcome hurdles and still win. I am proud of this team. All of you with the negative thoughts need to take a step back and look at where we are. Not many Super Bowl champs even have a chance to repeat the following year.

There was no choice between Fujita and Shanle. Fujita was simply offered more than we could afford. He leaviing or staying had nothing to do with Shanle's presence on the roster. They play different positions. Besides, Scott Shanle was voted the team's defensive MVP by the players last season!

This is a trend with the Saints, I've noticed it myself. Every play Vilma changed they went to the spot the line shifted from. Greer and Porter looked rather normal and we consistently don't get a push from the front four alone. Overall we won and and at moments gave me flash backs but your right the game shouldn't have been that close. I personally think it should have been a blowout.

WHODATNJ 12-06-2010 07:08 PM

Shanle is terrible in coverage and has been his whole career.

TheOak 12-08-2010 12:45 PM

Kawika Mitchell

RaginCajun83 12-08-2010 01:22 PM

He's got to have pictures of someone there cause they seem to bring people in to replace him and he keeps his job, I really hope they find someone to take his place this offseason either in the draft or free agency ... he's the reason why tight ends are killing the Saints this year

Shanle plays the WLB position. It isn't his job to cover the TE. The SLB handles those duties. And once again, the team knows a lot more about a players value than does us fans. I repeat, Scott Shanle was voted (by the team) the defensive MVP last season.

I was going to say thats because they do not have to watch Shanle play... But then I remembered they do watch tape.

The other players have been noted as calling Shanle the perfect team player. He isn't going to be making the big play or racking up the big stats, but his positioning in the defense allows the others to make those plays. It's like that inside LB in a 3-4 that funnels the runner into the play making ILB.

SaintsBro 12-08-2010 03:01 PM

I tend to think that a lot of why Shanle looks so "bad" to some people, is actually the same reason that Porter & Greer have occasionally looked less than spectacular, this year compared to last -- it's really lack of pass rush. If you give the opposing QB ten, fifteen seconds to stand there in the pocket like it's a sandlot game and watch his receivers run around, somebody somewhere is eventually going to get open. Even with supposedly "lockdown" corners and safeties.

The Saints defense requires every man to do exactly his job -- if that happens, if everybody executes their assignments, it actually works really well, without requiring mega-stud athletes at every position. You simply can't have elite one-of-a-kind, superstar Hall Of Fame players at every single position on the team, that's not realistic. And when the rest of the defensive scheme works, Shanle looks fine. Is he the best Saint out there? No. Is he the weakest player on the whole team, and yet they voted him MVP last year? Kinda ridiculous to think he is really that bad, when the players and coaches obviously think otherwise.

saintsfan601 12-08-2010 06:50 PM

Don't you just love preseason video.Who cares.

SaintsBro 12-08-2010 07:40 PM

LOL -- Obviously there he was just unselfishly funneling the runner and letting Vilma and the other guys make a play

TheOak 12-09-2010 07:03 AM

I can't see that video .. But my opinion of Shanle is based on how many plays he is the only one standing still watching a tackle being made. Standing still, almost in a hands on his hips way.... If a Co-Worker was giving me all of his sales and not trying to get any I would vote his azz Team player of the year too.

Not Team player of the year ... Most Valuable Player. Big difference.

Ashley 12-09-2010 09:13 AM

i would agree we need to upgrade him. But we also need a better defensive end too, we have to blitz the house most of the time to get pressure on anyone.

TheOak 12-09-2010 09:59 AM

And while that MVP vote may be true.... I have a hard time..make that an impossible time believing that the loss of Vilma or Sharper (Which we have fully educated on the absence of his impact this season) would be a lesser impact that is Shanle were absent from a game.

I have played the game, I have watched the game, I understand the game..... No one should be standing 2 feet from a tackle watching it. Especially when our QB is delivering blows on interceptions.

darstep 12-09-2010 10:40 AM

Shanle has heart! That's what I like about him and that's what's works with his limited speed. Sure, I wish he could knock 4 seconds off his 9.3 40 but he doesn't have the bone structure to make that happen. If speed to the ball is more important than leverage, for me it is, then we need an upgrade to take some of the pressure off of Vilma. A pass rush would also come in handy.

Exactly and the Will is all about speed.

jcp026 12-09-2010 01:32 PM

I think our upgrade is already on the roster...Casillas.

x626xBlack, where did you get that picture? Bravo!

st thomas 12-09-2010 01:38 PM

if the pick up is on the team meaning he passed a physical and is ready for play he can cause some destruction on blitz packages sooner than learning all the de plays. i rememember the guy now, he was a speed rushing lb.
