METAIRIE – During training camp, New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton once referred to undrafted rookie free agent running back Chris Ivory by the wrong name.

He mistakenly called him “Ivy,’’ suggesting the young player had not made a favorable impression.

Apparently, it was no mistake at all but rather a cryptic slip of the tongue from a coach who seldom lets his tongue slip without reason.

“I think he was calling me ‘Ivy’ because I was getting a lot of IV’s,’’ Ivory said Friday, referring to the intravenous fluids that typically are administered to rehydrate players during the dog days of summer camp.

That was four months ago. Now, not only does Payton know the name of the Saints’ leading rusher after 12 games, but Who Dat Nation and a world of pro football fans seemingly want to know everything there is to know about this 22-year-old beast of a running back.

In addition to piquing the curiosity of a national media, Ivory also is striking a chord in the business community, which raises the question:

Has a star been born?

“We are getting multiple calls daily for appearances, picture signings and autograph sessions,’’ said Ivory’s West Virginia-based agent, Mike Simon. “He’s already signed some card deals.

“The endorsement contracts are not solidified yet. But most of the offers want to use his name and picture to sell products. But he’s getting numerous calls for personal appearances after the season.’’

The Rookie is doing real well, Leading all rookies in rushing and leading our team in rushing.
I don't want to see his snaps be decreased when Pierre comes back, because even though Pierre is a great player Ivory has been the guy that has been stepping up the past couple of weeks.
