FB Evans leads Saints players in Pro Bowl voting
With only nine days remaining in the online fan voting for the 2011 Pro Bowl, eight New Orleans Saints players are among the top five vote-getters at their respective positions.
The only leader from the Saints is fullback Heath Evans. The 10-year veteran had garnered 132,694 votes as of Monday, according to figures released by the NFL office.
The online voting, which counts for one-third and is combined with one-third of the coaches vote and one-third of the players vote, concludes Dec. 20 at NFL Pro Bowl. The AFC and NFC teams for the annual all-star game to be played Jan. 30 in Honolulu will be announced on Dec. 28.
Quarterback Drew Brees ranks third among NFC quarterbacks behind the Philadelphia Eaglesí Michael Vick and Green Bay Packersí Aaron Rodgers (498,079).
Brees is also seventh among all players regardless of position, which is led by Vick (729,838). Sitting behind Vick are Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning (691,146) and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (623,074).
Saints guard Jahri Evans (90,381) and strong safety Roman Harper (68,691) are currently third at their positions while inside linebacker Jonathan Vilma (94,975), center Jonathan Goodwin (94,538) and free safety Malcolm Jenkins (66,769) are fourth.
Tight end Jeremy Shockey (118,905) is fifth at his position.
For the second year in a row, the Pro Bowl will be played the week before the Super Bowl instead of the week after as it had been for many years.
