After incident, Falcons call for rematch with Saints

1 Attachment(s)
FLOWERY BRANCH -- Most of the Falcons were ready to move on to Sunday's game against Carolina, but took due notice of the Saints posing for pictures and allegedly desecrating the team's logo after Monday night's game at the Georgia Dome.

"You just have to put that in your memory bank," Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon said Thursday.

The Falcons and the Saints could meet again in the playoffs, and the players believe the posing for pictures and alleged urination on the logo by Saints defensive tackle Remi Ayodele would be a major issue.

The Falcons would welcome a rematch with the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

"We look forward to seeing them again," safety Thomas DeCoud said. "Having them come back out here to Atlanta for Round Three."

The Falcons beat the Saints 27-24 on Sept. 27. The Saints prevailed 17-14 on Monday.

Asked if he was calling for a rematch, DeCoud said, "Yeah, why not. We have to pit the best against the best to see who is going to get to the [Super] Bowl."

The Falcons (12-3) would need to beat the Carolina (2-13) on Sunday. The Falcons would wrap up the No. 1 seed, and Saints would be the No. 5 seed.

The Saints would play the NFC West champion in the first round of the playoffs. Should the Saints win and the No. 3 seed defeats the No. 6 seed, the Falcons would play host to the Saints in the next round.

Before the latest game, both sides were hot and bothered over tweets by Falcons wide receiver Roddy White about the Saints and the city of New Orleans.

The Falcons, while tamed in their comments, were not happy with the Saints taking photos on the logo. In heated rivalries, these little dust-ups can get magnified.

"It was a division game," said "Fox NFL Sunday" pregame analyst Howie Long. "There's some bad blood there. I know that New Orleans, which has won a Super Bowl, had not been particularly fond of the fact that the Falcons have gotten so much attention, and they are in the same division."

The Falcons led the NFL with seven players selected to the NFC Pro Bowl team. The Saints had only three players selected.

But word of the Saints' postgame actions has made its way around the Falcons' locker room.

"I never saw it, but when I heard about it, that really wasn't a big deal or a concern for me," fullback Ovie Mughelli said. "That game is over with. I'm trying to beat the Panthers, so it wasn't even an issue. I know people are talking about it. We do the same thing at other people's places, so it didn't really matter to me."

But the issue will linger.

"If, and when we play them again, we'll probably address that, but at this point I don't have enough side energy or focus to give that any time," Mughelli said.

Making a big deal out of nothing when they do the exact same thing?

jnormand 12-31-2010 05:26 AM

Overblown hyperbole.

By the time they meet again the story will be that Remi sacrificed and ate Arthur Blank's grandchildren on the 50 yd line.

Another instance of the talking heads trying to create controversy where none exists.

CheramieIII 12-31-2010 08:21 AM

The Falcons don't want none of this again. Look we should have won the first game (Hartley I hate you) so there good but not as good as us and everyone knows that shiiiiiiiiiiit!

The Fail Clowns know that they cannot beat the Saints in an even match. So they exaggerate and make up shint in hopes of getting themselves fired up to the task. Ayodele urinating on the logo. C'mon, man.

lumm0x 12-31-2010 10:33 AM

I hope we're in their heads to the point they look past Carolina this weekend and throw up a stinker.

Mardigras9 12-31-2010 10:42 AM

If we see them again, I hope they give as much attention to White's trash talking tweet when they are trying to build up our "disrespect".

Saintswrath 12-31-2010 10:59 AM

At this point i wish he would have pissed on their logo..
The media spin and the angry group of fan's help fan the flames to push some dumb agenda.

ArmySaintFan 12-31-2010 03:44 PM

You have to admit.....If Remi had done that, it would be pretty damn funny!! A bit on the Ghetto side but funny all the same!!

Indeed ... we'll welcome a rematch.... nothing sweeter than to send them packing home, even if it's a short drive from the stadium for them. Trouble is, rather than an innocent tradition by the Saints to take a photo at midfield throughout the season, this one event of kicking the Fagclowns to the curb in the NFC title game would undoubtedly involve something much more elaborate than such an innocent photo-op at midfield... like the NFC Championship Trophy!

How do y'all like THIS photo-op?

The Dirty Birds are:
1. Trying to detract what happened on the night. They were beat up in their own back yard
2. Create some form of motivation to come again.

Whatever.

Remi addressed this on his twitter account. I'm pretty sure if he peed on the logo, someone would have seen it.

Harley is human. He didn't cause us to lose to the Cards or Browns.
He also hit a 50+ FG against Atlanta or the game would have went to OT.

Harley was excellent last year in the playoffs and SB.
He been outstanding 100% lately and has hit 85.1% of his FGs in his career.

xan 12-31-2010 07:50 PM

He took a pic on the logo, not a piss. You get an instant douchebag reporter whose 1st language is not English and you get that crap. Watch the video.

QBREES9 12-31-2010 09:18 PM

Lets do it again.

NOLA54 12-31-2010 10:09 PM

I think the Falcons won't make it past their first round playoff game. They will be playing either Philly or Green Bay. Either of these teams can play well enough to win that game. The Saints would have to take care of business in their first round and then beat the Bears. With the Falcons out of the way the Saints would play the NFC championship game at home.

Really?

All the players pee on the field. I remember some NFL special, where they asked guys, "What do you do, when you are in an important drive, and you have to go to the bathroom?" Almost EVERY one of them said the same thing, "I just go in my pants." "Can't stop momentum, everytime you gotta go pee." Just FYI..
