“Brees has got a real quick release,” said Bucs starting right defensive end Michael Bennett, who has one sack this season. “He’s one of the best in the NFL. You can’t get to him because he’s so smart and he’s so good at what he does. It’s going to take a lot to get to him this weekend. We have to get it started up front to help the DBs out with the receivers they have. He’s one of those guys like Peyton Manning that rarely gets sacked, so when you get him down it’s like it should count twice.”

Brees has been sacked just 22 times this year despite dropping back to throw 620 times. That’s an average of one sack per 28 attempts. Compare that to Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman, who has only been sacked 25 times this year but only has 448 passing attempts. That’s an average of one sack per 17 attempts.

“He’s very frustrating to sack,” said Bucs defensive end Tim Crowder. “Brees is definitely the wheels on that bus. He drives that offense and if you put another quarterback in there I assure you that you would see a difference. Not a lot of people get sacks on him. He gets the ball away. He’s great with his pocket presence and avoiding the rush. He feels you. He drops his shoulder. That’s why he’s a Pro Bowler and one of the best in the league.

“Brees is definitely a trophy sack. You know how hard it is to get a sack on him. That’s why you have to continue to rush because there be that one time where he holds it and that may be the only time you’ll get that game because everything else is gone quick.”

No doubt he's hard to sack. There have been a couple of times I wish he would have taken a sack instead of flipping it to the other team. He's still good in my book though and I am in no way bashing Brees.

I'll bash him a little..
I hope Brees has gotten that out of his system now, i know he was trying to extend the play and not lose 10 yards on several of those turnovers but the flicks could have demoralized the team, those turnover's and the pick6 came after the Saints offense produced a hard fought drive to the endzone, i don't see why it was necessary to stress things out when we had a lead and the D was doing great holding the Atlanta Offense off..
It's almost as if Brees has turned into a stat junky and was trying to get his numbers looking good before the season closes..

I thought Brees was getting frustrated at one point we have some of the best receivers in the NFL and Brees is arguably one of the best if not THE best QB in the NFL, one low stat game will not change people's minds about that, some drives could have been kept simple, like our 91 yard drive where Brees looked like was smoothly swimming down the field, eating chunks of the field and clock off, he could have done this all game long and i truly believe he would have tire Atlanta's D out, instead Payton called a bunch of mid-field and deep passes, the slants were being swallowed up and we just would not stop giving Bush those.

I hope it's out of his system is all im saying, I love Brees but when we get into the Post-season whatever team we play is not going to let us get back in the game after they capitalize on those TO's

You sorta getting there SW. You see Brees is stunningly unique in the way he gets in that flow. YOU KNOW he will drive the whole field.

But then, so many times this year, there had been these moments that most other teams accept. A off play here and there, a deflected pass, whatever and we are interception - it always seems just as we are about to put the game away we give away the turnover.

Frustration reigns, especially now. We could have taken it in the old days. We put up with it under lesser QBs. But not now. We expect better. Because we are better.

Well with all of that said i think it's time to bring up the question..

Should Saints rest Brees? should he even play a full quarter? should we actually watch the scoreboards and keep an eye on the Carolina/Falcons game and just sit Bree's unless theirs hope we have a chance?

Since Buc's intend to gun for Brees and this is their last desperate attempt at a playoff spot a big lick on Brees could hurt our post-season chances and potentially hurt for years to come..
Buc's are no chumps at Defense, they are very capable of getting to and folding up a QB..

SW: Brees start. Just in case Carolina is doing something we don't expect. We implement personnel changes if Carolina go down by 21 points or so.

Good article.
Very respectful. I like that.
Saintswrath, about resting him...if the Saints are way up and depending on the time, sure. Definitely.

I also think he was frustrated in Falcons game. The offense needed to work harder.
