PT23 tweeks ankle..Questionable for Sunday

New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas, who appeared to tweak his ankle at practice Friday, was listed as limited in his participation and questionable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay by Coach Sean Payton.

Thomas missed nine weeks with an ankle severely twisted against Atlanta in week three, but he came back with a vengeance against the Falcons last Monday accounting for just over 100 yards in offense. He suffered no visible physical setback in that game and did not appear on either the hypothetical injury report the Saints released Wednesday when they did not practice or on Thurday's report.

But Payton brusquely included Thomas at the end of his list Friday, chalking it up to the ankle and saying, "he's questionable."

Payton insisted the characterization was based on Thomas reps on practice rather than any new affliction or inflammation of an old injury. But he was visibly testy about the matter when asked.

"No, we just listed him just as it is, just less reps because of the ankle, limited," he said. When pressed he added, "no, nothing more about injuries, though. In other words, what I'm going to do anymore is just read the status and not discuss injuries."

The Saints two other principle running backs, Reggie Bush and Chris Ivory were also on the injury report although Bush (chest) and Ivory (hamstring) were both listed as probable for Tampa Bay.

Confirmed via Duncan's Tweet.

Not a big deal, probably will rest it up for post-season, we get Ivory back however possibly this Sunday since he's having full practices.

Don't disagree, but it seemed Payton was "testy" in reporting the "injury". It almost sounds like he was PO about the lack of reps from PT23.

hope this is just reason to prepare for playoffs. rest as many as possible.

SP has my vote to be as PO'ed as he'd like. No more excuses and no more laziness. I'm not interested in losing to the Bucs at the end of the year again... (Panthers game last year didn't count. Drew watched from the sidelines... grrrrr.....)

Pierre Thomas of New Orleans Saints hurts left ankle, may miss finale - ESPN

Prolly not serious ...

Speedy Ron 12-31-2010 06:10 PM

i think its a little reason for concern. this kept him out almost all year. hes not going to be miraculously 100% in a few weeks. ivory isnt an iron man either. our rbs are made of glass

QBREES9 12-31-2010 09:13 PM

Rest him play Ivory and will see in the Playoffs.

jnormand 12-31-2010 10:18 PM

Not again.....this is getting ridiculous.

lumm0x 12-31-2010 10:23 PM

Rest him and give Julius the majority of the reps. I want a healthy trio of PT, Reggie and Ivory come post season. Hell, give Evans some touches and keep defenses wary of the quick inside dive. He's been a seldom used part of our offense so far.

Danno 01-01-2011 08:20 AM

I think its safe to say he won't get Steven Jackson money this offseason.

GeauxForMore 01-01-2011 11:19 AM

We got good depth at RB, Chris Ivory is going to be back. Reggie Bush is going to play. Give JJ some reps and PT23 will be back for the playoffs. Who Dat.....
