New Orleans Saints' passing offense sharing the wealth at record rate
It's no secret that the New Orleans Saints like to spread the ball around in their passing game with Coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees at the helm. But this year has truly stressed that point.
Ten different players have caught at least 23 passes for the Saints this season, which is believed to be a NFL record. Nine players have at least 29 catches. And four different wide receivers have at least 464 receiving yards.
"It starts with the quarterback, the spacing of what we do," Payton said. "You know, all of those guys understand their importance within a specific route. And it also probably has to do with the numbers of various injuries where guys have been up. To get that many is a little unusual. But it's something that they understand within the route, that regardless of what route they're running, they could end up certainly with the ball. And I think the key, and I've said this before, is for them to paint the right picture for the quarterback."
