Actually I don't think the Panthers mailed it in. They were still trying to score at the end and they did finally make it into the end zone. Here are the Panthers' main problems:

1. No quarterback
2. Only one good receiver
3. No Julius Peppers which left a huge void at defense.

It's no wonder the Bears' defense has done so well this year and the Panthers' defense has struggled so mightily. Unfortunately for the Panthers (and fortunately for the Saints), they will be in the wilderness for a long time now. It could take up to three years to fully rebuild this team and make it a playoff-caliber ball club.

Yeah and don't forget they lost williams and Stewart haven't looked good all year but one game.

I don't think they mailed it in either. They are just that bad.

The Carolina bench at the game in the Superdome this year, was the most lackadaisical and laid-back pro bench I have ever seen in all my years of going to the Dome...guys sitting on the bench, like they were in a park sunning themselves. No coaches yelling, no urgent huddles, no looking at Polaroids, no guys jawing...just nothing...the players could have cared less about the game going on right in front of them...it was kinda embarrassing if you ask me.

As long as they are total garbage, I am happy...it is one less team we really need to worry about in our division, it is 2 almost-automatic victories a year on the schedule, even if we play our WORST against them. Hopefully the league will go back to putting them last on our schedule again, so we can rest our starters in week 17.... They used to be a decent team, but now that is ALL the Carolina team is good for, is resting your starters before the playoffs. The Falcons got that lucky break this year, we had it last year.

Papz is right look at Tampa with a new QB and serious Coach. Also you don't announce your Coach leaving before your last game and expect the team to do anything. And if someone like Bill Cowher takes the job they will quickly turn around.

They are just a bad football team.

Yeah, thanks for nothing Carolina.

In the words of Herm Edwards, "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! THAT'S IT!" It doesn't matter that they had nothing to play for. It's their job to go out and win games, meaningless or not. When the Saints B-team, punted on that 4th down, with only minutes to go on Sunday, I was ticked off! Pull the starters? Yes, but give the back ups some playing time, in real game situations. You never know, when one of them is going to be called on, to come in and play.

Carolina laid down, and yes they are a bad football team. Even bad ones play til the whistle blows. These guys were already picking out their seats for the bus trip home at halftime.
