Chris Ivory on Crutches and in a Boot - Per CBS Sports

Jan. 03, 2011 3:51 p.m. - RB Chris Ivory was spotted during the open locker room period on crutches and with his foot in a walking boot. Ivory sustained a foot injury during Sunday's loss vs. Tampa Bay. His problems were not addressed by coach Sean Payton during his press conference on Monday.

Hopefully it's a ploy. But I doubt it. Man this sux, Freaking Ivory is soooo good, but way to damn injury-prone!!!!!!!!!!

darstep 01-03-2011 04:46 PM

Ivory makes a difference. Hopefully its to promote healing and a quicker return. Reggie and PT can get it done though. Bush looked a lot better turning it up the field and getting what he could get yesterday. He tightened it up last post season. PT also looks like he's getting his feet back under him. If Ivory can't go, I think we'll be alright.

pherein 01-03-2011 04:52 PM

um.. didnt CBS sports also say we pissed on the falcons logo?

Have you seen this guy? He's all muscle. I'm no expert but I don't think strength and conditioning are his problem.

Euphoria 01-03-2011 05:04 PM

Not just him but it has been all our RB's. This season. Last year it was our secondary.

No not strength and conditioning he needs to be coached on how to run hard and avoid injury, there are various techniques that can be taught on how to land on the ground, how to protect yourself in pile-up's, etc, I've watched Ivory run and he kinda just slams himself into the line and bust out but he run's very loosely, when he gets tackled he most likely has a bad stance that is causing injury when he tries to push for them extra yards with 5 guys pushing back at him, but thats gotta be up to Sean Payton to get him to seek that type of help.

foreverfan 01-03-2011 05:13 PM

Some people have too much muscle for their skeleton structure. This leads to these type of injuries.

ClintSaints 01-03-2011 05:38 PM

Reggie Bush will need to step up bigtime. He played brilliantly against an improved Bucs defense on Sunday. Hopefully he can do that again.

spkb25 01-03-2011 05:38 PM

Man it is a violent sport- it isn't strength and conditioning. Some guys just get injured more frequently then other guys.

This sucks

Yeah, I understand the problem, I'm so bowed up that I pull a muscle just stretching.lol

B_Dub_Saint 01-03-2011 05:49 PM

I cant handle anymore injuries after this weekend. WTF!

True, and you know as well as I do that NFL conditioning is way more complicated than simple muscle building.

There are several things meant by Ivory improving strength and conditioning...

Proper diet, what to eat, when to eat, etc
Proper stretching before game
Proper stretching after the game
How to treat problem muscles
How to treat soreness after the game
How to lift
What to lift
When to lift
When to rest
When to ice
When to heat
Frequency of lifting
Frequency of resting
Power versus endurance training

A real conditioning expert could write a freaking novel on proper NFL conditioning and how each and every player is different.

Thats what is meant by proper strength and conditioning. It has nothing to do with how muscular a guy is.

yep, I think they are called Avulsion Fractures. I had a few on my legs and feet when I was a RB. Happens when your muscle is stronger than your bone. Literally rips the surface of the bone off when you make a move.

You can over do working out.

And there isn't much you can do about it if that's it. Except draft a bell cow back.

Yeah I know, I suffer from this problem.....well ok no I'm just kidding. But I sure hope he can play. It really opens things up for Drew when we can get the running game going. If this guy could stay healthy, he'd be a top running back in the league for sure.

Ironically, he might benefit more from a program like yoga to put some suppleness into his body.

Ya,lol, thats 6 weeks. I think one of the problems with the NFL is they over condition allot of these guys, especially RB's. You need body fat. They need to figure out the bone strength to muscle equation on a player by player basis, it might stop some of these injuries. Funny enough Ivory might have hurt himself more by working out at a higher level, instead of taking some time off. RB talents are mostly in the head, you cant see anything when you run, its mostly instincts, timing.

Defenses don't hit like this at Tiffin.

I'd still like to see a bruiser RB come to New Orleans in 2011.

And no, PT isn't a bruiser. Maybe for a game or two, but not a season.

SAINT_MICHAEL 01-03-2011 06:50 PM

Watching Steven Jackson last night I couldn't help but think what a back of his size and abilities would do for the team.

pherein 01-03-2011 06:55 PM

Dixon who was picked by SF was my pick, hes got it.

I get that it's his style, but running into NFL defenders is a little different that the likes of Saginaw Valley State.

Here's his 2009 schedule and btw, they went 0-11, Ivory played in 4 games and rushed for 223 yds and no TD's.

The word "suppleness" should never be used on this website again - ever.

Rickey Williams used to be injury prone like that. Perhaps Chris Ivory should consult with this Zen master for the secret to a less injury prone body.

Turbo Saint 01-03-2011 09:39 PM

we just need sal alosi...he has strong knees.

Ah I think Ricky's Zen master would just have Chris stoned every game. LOL!

gumbeau 01-04-2011 04:23 AM

Ballet or bally.

Bally sounds more fun depending on the teacher.

Luda34 01-04-2011 06:17 AM

Any word on PT at least if he plays we don't have to whole our breath everytime get the ball like we have to do when Ivory get the ball. I would have love to have all our backs ready for the start of the playoffs.

Man I do Yoga every so often- use to do it once a week- kid you not bro, it is hard and well worth the effort. I know you were being serious and I am agreeing with you. I think it could be beneficial to all athletes!

Mike swear to God man that stuff would surprise you!! It would honestly be beneficial. Try it sometime, you'd be surprised how much of a workout it is. I do a 47 minute routine every so often and I am dripping with sweat
