Gregg Williams To Interview with Broncos

"The Broncos will interview interim coach Eric Studesville and Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey (a former head coach at Buffalo) and will ask permission to interview Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell (who had been an interim coach in Buffalo) and Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. The list will grow in the next two days."

Does anyone else find it ironic that the man who refused to play for the Colts is now an executive?

Euphoria 01-05-2011 01:25 PM

I am surprise that Williams is even interviewing for a HC position.

I thought Williams was a smart man to realize he doesn't have what it takes to be a HC so stay at DC.

If Elway hires him. That will be the first mistake he makes and the clock starts ticking to he is fired, lol.

papz 01-05-2011 01:35 PM

They're going to hire an offensive minded coach for Tebow... if they feel he is their future franchise quarterback imo. I think if they don't go with Studesville, Mularkey will be their guy.

lynwood 01-05-2011 02:04 PM

They are asking for permission to interview him. I'd say no until playoffs are over.

GW isn't going anywhere.....New Orleans is the perfect place for him. He has complete control on the defensive side of the ball and next season he might actually get some talent to coach. He has a powerful offense here that can make the other team get in catch up mode real quick. That is good for a D coordinator. Besides Sean will talk Benson into matching any amount necessary to keep him.

I agree, he's not diplomatic enough to be a head coach. He's in the best possible scenario right now which is total control of the defense, a good salary and like you said, he'll get some say so in the draft. Why would he want to give all that up for a fat paycheck for walking into a bad situation. It's just not worth it long term. It's likely to fail and then his reputation takes a big hit.

....This

RaginCajun83 01-05-2011 02:44 PM

All Saints have to do is say no, it does feel good to know that the Saints finally have a coach that other teams think is head coach material

dizzle88 01-05-2011 04:45 PM

Plus the situation he's in right now in New Orleans is like there are two head coaches.
It seems like both Coach payton and GW are head coaches, both with total reign over their respective side of the ball.
It would be pretty dumb for him to leave, as its been said, we'll get some defensive talent in the offseason and draft for him to work with, perfect situation for him right here.

I'm not saying he wouldn't jump ship. I just think he can do better than Denver.

OhmYGOD!!! Is this an episode of the Twilight Zone!? I feel like I'm trapped in an episode of the Twilight Zone and I DON"T WANT to get to the ending!!!

We should know by now that all coaches get recycled, and Gregg Williams has to be a very strong candidate for a few openings. I would keep an eye out on the Carolina Panthers.

ShowUsUrRing 01-05-2011 07:17 PM

I think this is only being done for the "Rooney Rule". Don't get me wrong, he is a great coach (especially defensively), but I think he has the job he wants. He is in a great situation down here and besides when he was head coach in Buffalo he wasn't even close to being as succesful as he is down here. Who Dat C'Mon Gregg, We need you man!

Gregg Williams is black?

ShowUsUrRing 01-05-2011 07:28 PM

Lmao no. That rule where teams are forced to interview several candidates.

QBREES9 01-05-2011 11:22 PM

Denver is a mess from head to toe. So no Greg won't go.

SmashMouth 01-06-2011 04:35 AM

head coach material for sure... lol

spkb25 01-06-2011 07:01 AM

Well good, that means he is coaching for something these playoffs, can't be a bad thing!

darstep 01-06-2011 09:54 AM

Broncos will probably be as offensive minded as a team gets with the Elway/TimT pairing. Williams just might be the perfect compliment to balance their new offensive arsenal. I'm with Magic, who would say no to 5 million when you already have a Lombardi in your pocket? He'll learn quick how to be civil and diplomatic if offered the position and the MONEY. Cash makes the monkey dance.

I'm with you Alaska. Just win the Super Bowl and then feel free to talk all you want. No more distractions needed at this time. It's time to focus, focus, focus.

Saints DC Gregg Williams said Thursday that he's had no contact with the Broncos regarding their vacant head coaching position.

Williams was reported to be on the Broncos' list of candidates, but he's yet to hear from Denver. With the Saints playing in the Wild Card round, Williams is ineligible for an interview until next week. "I'm very, very happy here," said Williams, who referred to the Saints as "one of the few functional organizations in this league."

Screw Denver, ever since I lived in Wyoming when they were winning and having to deal with their fanbase (they about as dumb as cowboys fans) I have hated that team with a passion, last thing I want is them getting GW
