Reggie Bush speaks...

wwltvsports
When asked if he felt he earned the $8 million this year, Bush intimated that he wasn't sure, citing injuries & amount of touches...

wwltvsports
Said Bush: "Obviously I don’t think I was able to live up to those expectations from a money standpoint. It sucks and it’s disappointing."

wwltvsports
But Bush said he knows he can be a back that is a $100 million running back. "I can give you $100 million worth if given the opportunity."

wwltvsports
When asked if Bush would be back in N.O. playing for $11.8 million next year, he said, "Common sense would tell you probably not"

wwltvsports
But Bush said over and over and over again that he wants to do whatever is necessary to stay in New Orleans w/ the #Saints, including...

wwltvsports
(more Bush) renegotiating his contract whatever way works best 4 both parties. "You have to be fair to whatever the market sets," Bush said.

oh yea he knows he has to rework the contract if he wants to be a saint. we will see

pherein 01-11-2011 02:11 PM

Love reggie, but he will have to rework the deal below 2-3 million. I dont see it as productive, if his money cost us losing PT or Moore, by not getting them into a contract. PT and Moore have constantly produced.

Rusty 01-11-2011 02:13 PM

he will pierre Thomas said he see a future in New Orleans so he knows they need to work something out Reggie and Pierre will sit down with Loomis when its said and done Both will back in the starting line up

papz 01-11-2011 02:15 PM

The question isn't whether he's willing to take a pay cut... but how much of it is he willing to take? Is he really willing to take at least half a pay cut from what he made last season to stay?

"I can give you $100 million worth if given the opportunity."

I'm glad he's confident but I don't think so. He was coming off one of his most promising performances the past couple of season coming into last week's game only to fail to live up to expectations.

I'd almost garrote the HO is more worried about losing Moore, or PT. IF he doesn't fit with their #'s he has to go. I cant remeber when PT didnt show, and even so PT is a brilliant 2nd RB or could be a stat RB, Moore is always a show also. We really need bush, but hes one we can survive without, he needs to understand that. You cant just show sometimes and expect that kind of money, as strato said 2-3 mill hes in, otherwise welcome to buffalo:)

Crusader 01-11-2011 02:29 PM

Well sounds like he wants to stay and I love that. How many years rmeoved are we from the time when players bolted as soon as they could?

Pete 01-11-2011 02:39 PM

I believe this will turn out to be a good thing all the way around. He'll be payed a reasonable amount of pay with potential bonuses attached for achievements.Reggie understanding he needs to live up to his pay rate says he isn't swole headed (how can he be). Mickey finalizes a fair deal once again!I'm glad Reggie didn't take the low road;Although the deal is not done, I'm feeling good about his comments and still believe he still has a chit load of upside!!Bobby Hebert pretty much said he needs more leg strength to break more tackles.

pherein 01-11-2011 02:54 PM

completely agree pete

Euphoria 01-11-2011 03:02 PM

I think we can get another PR who is better for less money.

Whoa Euph... I'm glad over time he's graduated from a jersey seller to punt returner in your book.

You cant say that, or you just dont understand paytons offense.Every piece has its purpose. ITs the difference between our losing ERA and the the time were in now.

Is there any team that could beat us this year, if we stayed healthy, nope. Not even the Patriots

Shows alot about how Reggie's character has grew from the young guy that came out of USC, to the guy that understands his role in the offense.
What i love most is that reggie acknowledged that he will need to take a pay cut, but he is willing to do that to stay with this team.
I respect those comments reggie,
i want to see him play like he did in the first half of 2008, remember? when he kind of......led the league in touchdowns for 8 weeks, before he got injured?

I say give him 2-3 million and some incentive based money. That way if he gets hurt or doesn't perform, he doesn't get paid as much. But if he would do well, he would still have the opportunity too make a lot. I'm glad he said what he did, but I wonder how true it is when it comes time to cut a deal.

Sounds to me like he isn't all that happy with the opportunity he's been given here.

Something smells fishy about that statement.

lynwood 01-11-2011 07:33 PM

He'll be back for less which I think is good news.

Mardigras9 01-11-2011 07:42 PM

He has proven over and over again he should not be considered or paid as a primary. He had flashes early in his career, but his production overall is definitely not what he gets paid. Moore has proven over and over and over he is a big part of the offense and should be paid as such. P.T. deserves a chance to prove he is still worth bigger dollars, fought whatever his true injury was all year but has been huge when healthy.

I think he's also talking about injuries limiting his touches. He knows his body is a big reason he hasn't performed.

SaintPauly 01-11-2011 09:21 PM

I still think we have to either draft a RB, or go after a big name in free agency. Our running game was pathetic this year, and that HAS to be addressed, if this team is planning on going deeper into the playoffs next year.

subguy 01-11-2011 10:07 PM

I think he feels he is under utilized in his role as decoy....but he hasn't risen to any occasion to prove he should be utilized for anymore than a smoke screen.

He's not getting enough carries. Thats how I see it atleast. Most RBs need more than 4 carries to get into a rythm. I'll still point at the Bucs game and say "look what he did with more carries than usual".

Anyone who really believes Reggie Bush is going to stay with the Saints for 2-3 mill per year is crazy. I could see cutting him and bringing him back for that amount if the open market fails him, but he is not going to take THAT kind of cut willingly.

saintsfan1976 01-12-2011 09:58 AM

Why is Bush always saying "IF given the opportunity..."

To me that's like saying he's not happy with his role in the offense.

He needs to make the most of his opportunities when he's given them.

SapperSaint 01-12-2011 10:12 AM

Bush will test the market. I just don't see another team out there that will pay him what he thinks he is worth. I don't think there is a team out there that can afford to throw the money train at just one player.

If he stays for less money, then fine. If he goes elsewhere....that's fine too.

Also sounds like - at least for the moment - that Reggie has resigned to the fact he's only worth a certain amount to ANY team. His best chance of winning is in New Orleans, WITH Payton and Brees.

Hopefully it's about winning rings and not buying them.

NFL.com news: Saints RBs Bush, Thomas ponder possible futures elsewhere

st thomas 01-12-2011 11:07 AM

when reggie accepts he's a role player and not a feature back he will survive here. when he was made to carry the load it often ended in a fumble. is it he loses focus or just gets tired easy. but he always kills a drive if given the oportunity to carry the load so to speak. that said payton found a way that it works with him and its a role player. i would love reggie back like anyone else. but he has to live with what payton says. 2 to 2.5 with incentives for more per season tops.

Fleured 01-12-2011 11:10 AM

I just don't see how Reggie can say he can be the $100 million man and perform like he has. Yes, he has made some great plays for us, and I may be wrong; but I think he has missed more than he has made.

As far as PT saying "You can talk the talk but can you walk the walk". Well PT....you sure proved you couldn't this year.

I don't think we need either of them. They had some good plays, but I would rather find some young blood that stays healthy
