New Orleans Saints tailback Pierre Thomas wishes he could change the past, but he still sees future in New Orleans

By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune

New Orleans Saints tailback Pierre Thomas described his injury-plagued 2010 season as a roller-coaster ride. But the pending free agent said that won't keep him from returning to New Orleans in 2011 if he and the Saints can work out a new deal that works for both sides.

Thomas' season was marred by a lingering ankle injury and conflicting diagnoses from various doctors. And though Thomas said he doesn't blame anyone for the way his injury was handled, he said if he could go back in time, he would have rested the ankle for longer after first suffering the injury in Week 3.

"In the beginning, if I would've stayed off my feet right after the injury, earlier in the season, I think I would've been back (to full strength)," Thomas said. "I would've played in the playoffs."

I still believe PT is a solid RB the whole injury situation was strange. Even Shockey was in out with injuries this season. If you look around the league the RB's seem to be the most prone for injuries.

How much of a deal can he get after this past season?! Same deal as last year? And how can a league, with so many specialty doctors, misdiagnose this ankle injury? Might want to look at hiring a new doc that can diagnose correctly.

I can still remember when Shockey came here in 2008, and about mid season the doctors mis-diagnosed a sports hernia injury that kept him out for a lot longer than it should have been, shockey was not best pleased.
Seems like a common occurence with our medical staff.

How does a common injury (esp to RB's) like this get mishandled so badly??

You'd think the NFL has the best doctors in the world, right?

With his injuries, one would think his market value has dipped and could be re-signed at a very affordable rate. It absolutely sucked for this season, but it could be a blessing in disguise.

you're right Papz - plus I love PT's role in our offense. The screen game just hasn't been the same...

I've said for years that our medical staff is terrible. They have misdiagnosed injuries for far too long. Some one should check their medical credentials.
Maybe that's why Sean Payton is so closed mouth about injuries........he really doesn't know what's wrong with his players which makes it hard to determine how long they'll be out.;)

Oh, and PT is the man in my book. Unfortunately he isn't healthy enough to be the only man.
