Nov. 25, 2003 By Jay Glazer SportsLine.com Senior Writer Tell Jay your opinion! Lamar Smith is back in the NFL. After an alcohol-related incident spelled trouble for him in his only season with the Carolina Panthers, the former star running back is getting another chance. SportsLine.com has learned that Smith has agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Saints for the rest of this season to back up standout Deuce McAllister. The Saints were looking for help at running back because of injuries to backups Ki-Jana Carter and James Fenderson. Smith, who turns 33 on Saturday, had his best season with the Miami Dolphins in 2000 with 1,139 yards rushing, 201 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns. Smith had an earlier stint in New Orleans in 1998 and '99, and played the four previous seasons in Seattle. |
