Season of highs and lows

But depending on which veterans they re-sign and who they get in free agency, the Saints feel like the window of opportunity is still open.

“Obviously, the season didn’t end the way we all had intended,” Brees said. “There’s disappointment, but yet we do have a lot to be proud of. Odds are always against a team that comes off a Super Bowl win or Super Bowl appearance. It’s human nature that everybody’s coming for you.”

The future, he said, is still bright for a team that, with a good blend of veterans and youngsters, set a club record for victories over a two-year stretch with 24.

“I felt like we made some strides going forward,” Brees said. “The results weren’t the same, but I feel we’re poised to continue to make a run at it here for a while.”

brees being the true man he is knows in the bottom of his heart he left something out there, was it the just to much to do with so little time to prepare for the new season to fast. to many appearances to many places to be and no time to work out as useall, the same with the majority of the champs. it takes it tolls guys and a lot of us don't see it. but with the ending of the season so late you need to get away and gather it all in and get back to work to soon . injuries killed the black n gold and still showed class and dominence at times. the human element all spelled the end, we will be back count on it.

I mentioned this on another post but I'll say it again. Brees and company will not let the sting of the early playoff departure to an extremely inferior team fade away. They will be ready next season and they will be under the radar. The Saints will be a very scary team and I think we will see the type of season that we saw in '09...maybe even better, who knows. I've always been an optimist when it comes to my team though. Even when the Saints had no hope of doing anything I was always excited to "start a new year". If someone thinks I'm wrong about THIS Saints team though, then let me know. I just have a feeling that the Saints are going to come back with a lot to prove.

The window of opportunity is definitely now. As long as Drew Brees is the QB of the Saints, never count them out. Obviously, the staff has some major decisions this off season concerning the make up of the 2011 team. It is safe to assume there will be some major roster moves. After the Super Bowl last season, because of the new free agency rules, the Saints were pretty much handcuffed in terms of improving their roster, but the good news is they were able to keep it intact. Now a year later, they can improve it, which is a great thing. I don't care how great a team is in one year, improvement is always necessary. A lot of the Saints weaknesses were exposed in 2010. This time around free agents should be able to willingly sign, and we all know it's easy to gain free agent talent when the player knows he has a real chance at a ring. Oh yeah, hopefully this collective bargaining issue gets put to rest quick or all bets are off...

Saints had every team playing them trying to take them out. And those teams had the whole offseason to study how to expose our weaknesses. Saints, on the other hand, had all of the post Super Bowl appearances to make, books to write, commercials to star in and not much down time. This is going to be a long offseason. Time for them to get back to Saints business and fix what's broken and shore up the weak links. I predict a strong Saints team next season 'cause Breesus says so:)
