MOBILE, Ala.

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has no doubt about quarterback Drew Brees' future with the franchise.

The same can't be said of running back Reggie Bush.

While not offering specifics, Loomis said Wednesday that a contract extension will ultimately be finalized with Brees. The Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLIV is entering the final year of a six-year, $60 million deal he signed in 2006. Brees is set to earn $7.4 million in base salary in 2011.

"It's pretty clear that we're going to want to have Drew under contract for the long term," Loomis told me and co-host Jim Miller on Sirius NFL radio. "I know that will happen at some point. He knows that will happen at some point."

The writing is all over the wall with Bush. My prediction is he is done in New Orleans. I just don't see him taking the big pay cut that the Saints will want, my best guess is he hits the open market. He may have to eventually settle for less than what the Saints offer him, but out of pride my best guess is he signs with another team. As for Brees, I believe he is going to sign a contract that is way out of our imagination. I have him pegged at a 7 year deal around 160 million.

It's not that simple with Bush. He has one more year remaining on his contract. I can't see the Saints cutting him out-right. Nobody is going to trade for him with a $11.5M hit with no guarantee of his renegotiating an acceptable deal. Bush has said he wants to remain a Saints and knows that Payton's offense is his best fit. He's made his money up front and would be better off re-working the current deal for a reasonable new deal with the Saints.

i dont think we need bush and i dont see him taking a pay cut that relative to how hes performed. that being said, if he does and sticks around i will have a lot more respect for him and wont curse him as much.

I think this is what will happen. I can see his new contract be back-loaded and with a lot of incentives. Nobody will pay him top dollars since he can't seem to stay healthy.

Brees - first $100mil QB

I think Bush still wants to prove himself in New Orleans. His best season was with Deuce. Will we find a Steven Jackson/Michael Turner type back this year?

They're definitely bringing back Brees he's an elite quarterback obviously so they have no choice. Bush is a decent back, but not a number 1. They'll probably let him go
