Don't blaim him, it's a sweet spot for his family, I would do the same given the choice. Black and Gold rules the heart, not the head.

Depending on the school district he's in. School district tax is the highest tax on the property tax. Basically it's about 2% of the value of your house. At least it is for us.

Here's a slideshow of his house incase anyone is interested. Very nice.

Where your company is based, where the checks are cut… is of no tax consequence. My company is based in Oklohoma and payroll was moved to Dubai. I paid La incomtax when I lived there and none now that I live in Texas. His children will receive a better education and he will pay no State income tax.

Moving from La to Tx has a few exchanges.
No income tax
No tax on unprepared foods (groceries).

Increase in property taxes which vary depending on newness of the district, and schools.
HOA dues will go up.

Insurance rates are likely to stay the same.

The increases are tangible however. You know and can see where your money goes. Better schools, better roads, etc…

I have been living in Texas for 2 years now. My brother asked me a few months ago when I would be moving back. I answered as seriously and as honest as I could. "my heart with always be in Loiusiana, but I am glad my azz is in Texas." I was born and raised in South Louisiana.
