Saints Waive PJ Hill

Hate to see him waived bc he looked so good in camp last year.

Also waived FB Marcus Mailei.

Mike Kearney was released by St. Louis a few day ago... ?

So we're left with:

Reggie - who need to severely restructure and stay healthy
PT - who needs to sign a contract and stay healthy
Ivory - who has ability but finished the season on IR
Hamilton - starting to see a theme here??
And the "who knows" crew; Joique Bell, Julius Jones, DeShawn Wynn, Chris Taylor,Ladell Betts

Anyone else concerned with the position?

foreverfan 02-11-2011 08:03 AM

Man... there goes training camp. Didn't see that one coming.

saintsfan1976 02-11-2011 08:12 AM

Time to focus on a RB. We haven't gone after a top RB since Deuce - well, unless you count Beanie Wells' understudy... What was his name again?

"can't get right"

papz 02-11-2011 08:13 AM

At best he was a training camp/preseason body for us. I wish him luck... he put a lot of effort into losing weight coming into the pros... too bad he can't stay healthy.

saintsfan1976 02-11-2011 08:21 AM

Who has remained healthy? Our RB corps is the walking wounded and it needs a facelift.

D_it_up 02-11-2011 08:41 AM

I agree. The RB position definitely needs to be addressed. It's time to go after someone who can carry the load 20-25 times a game. Having depth is a great thing, but what good does it do a team when none of them can stay on the field? I love P.T., Reggie, and Ivory, but they've been spending more time in the infirmary than the field.

saintsfan1976 02-11-2011 08:57 AM

I'll say this - Reggie's year was when we had Deuce.

dizzle88 02-11-2011 09:51 AM

Waive JJ and ladell betts, two guys that have seen their best days.

Keep - Joique Bell, Wynn (can play special teams aswell), Hopefully Hamilton and Ivory can overcome their injury struggles, because they are both good RB's.
Sign Deangelo Williams, draft a late round RB, fight it out in training camp.
Sign PT to contract, if reggie restructures keep him, if not cya later.

This is a step in the right direction. The Saints need some new talent at the position, no sense in holding on to this guy. I do however wish him the best!

Deuce was the worst RB cut a coach could make, but Deuce was done.
I have full confidence SP knows the RB position, after all he did pick PT over better candidates that we drafted to fit the bill. SP knows what hes doing.

Jordan Todman UConn Huskies running back.

The New Orleans Saints waived tailback P.J. Hill and fullback Marcus Mailei, both of whom spent last season on injured reserve.

Hill showed some potential in each of the past two summers and spent most of the 2009 season on the Saints' practice squad. But the 6-foot, 235-pounder missed a chance at a roster spot last year when he suffered a season-ending triceps injury during the preseason. The Saints could have used him as the season wore on. They wound up with five running backs on injured reserve.
The Saints' tailback position is full of question marks heading into 2011. Veteran Reggie Bush is due a salary of $11.8 million in the final year of his contract, which means he'll only remain in New Orleans if he agrees to a restructured contract. Fellow veteran Pierre Thomas, meanwhile, could become an unrestricted free agent, depending on the terms of the NFL's next collective bargaining agreement, and he is recovering from ankle surgery.

Second-year tailback Chris Ivory had a breakout rookie season, but he was also plagued by injuries and had foot surgery last month. He is expected to be healthy in plenty of time for the 2011 season. Third-year pro Lynell Hamilton is also expected back after suffering a season-ending knee injury during training camp last year.

Veterans Julius Jones, Ladell Betts and DeShawn Wynn all are scheduled to become free agents.

Mailei appeared in two games with the Saints as a rookie in 2009, primarily on special teams. He was placed on injured reserve last summer with an undisclosed leg injury.

I wouldn't say horrible, but definitely a shadow of his former self.

I fully anticipte a new starting FB in 2011.

I really want LeRon McClain (FreeAgent-Ravens). He can block well, run well, and has good hands out the backfield, and he will bring the pain.

Euphoria 02-14-2011 08:56 AM

No I said HORRIBLE.
There were many times he missed blocks. He was just lost out there at times. Reminds me of Jeff Faine.
Evans needs to say bye bye.

MATHIUS 02-17-2011 10:17 AM

i have a feeling he'll be back before training camp starts. thats assuming the new CBA will be finalized

One back injured a lot… injury prone. Two backs injured a lot.… possibly two injury prone backs. ALL the backs hurt multiple times throughout the season.

Time to start looking at the strength and conditioning. Or in my honest opinion , it's the offensive line. Do we actually have the 4 most fragile backs in the NFL? or are they hitting a brick wall at the line of scrimmage?

There are backs that run harder and do not get hurt. There are backs that run twice as much that do not get hurt.

Add to that Drew being hurt part of the season, and everyone behind center was injured last season.

ClintSaints 02-21-2011 04:42 PM

Maybe PJ Hill's injury was worse than thought? Or he's not recovering properly? I have a feeling we could see him back though....

I think our line is overrated and has been dating all the way back to Aaron Brooks, both passing AND run blocking.

I agree with that. Frankly I think they have a mental thing of, IF THEY DECIDE TO SHOW UP they are really really good, but if they take the play or the game or the whole week of practice "off," then they kinda suck and can look very average, even mediocre. I think they CAN be a Pro Bowl caliber line, when they are ON. And this can vary week to week, day to day, or even different parts in the same game. This past year, they were generally not on.
