Agreed on LaRoi, but Bush a better return man than the Beer man? Naah!

And booyah for my boy Sammy Knight up there!

Well Mel Gray was an excellent returner for the Saints as was Tyrone Hughes; like the Beer Man's Story more than I like the results (he was always awesome in preseason).

But Reggie Bush has 4 PRfTD; Hughes is second...

Michael Lewis has 1PR/3KRfTD; total of four...

So Bush has had as much success in total returns for TD...

Mel Gray avg 13.4yds/R...

Reggie ranks near the bottom of the NFL since he came into the league. He's a terrible punt returner. I'd take Hughes, Gray and Lewis over Bush anyday.

In fact, I'd take Lance Moore over Reggie Bush right now.

Hughes has a total of 5TD's on returns to Bush's 4...

And Bush doesn't get kicked to that often...

And when he does, he usually doesn't do very well at all.

3 of Reggies TD's were all in one year, and I think 2 were in the same game.

I posted this from another discussion on the topic.

Bush was a really good PR for 1 year, 2008. Every other year he'd rank near dead last in the NFL for PR average.

Remove 2008, and in 4 years he's averaged 6.25 yards (72 Returns for 450 yards) and scored 1 TD. Awful, simply awful.

That ranks dead last in the NFL. Even if you include 2008, he's only averaged 7.8 YPR, which ranks him in the bottom 1/3 of the league.

Even our back-up returner Lance Moore averaged 9 yards per return (38 for 342) over that same span.

But, you are only counting the TDs. The Beer Man didn't muff as many catches as Reggie does. I don't ever recall Michael Lewis dropping a kick and getting his leg broken as he scrabbled around trying to get the ball back.

jeanpierre 03-08-2011 08:30 AM

Bush was tackled when the 49'er jumped on him as he was already down; and no flag was thrown...

But we never had much success with the refs when we played the 49'ers...

And TD's are a pretty good indicator of success of returns...

Bush is judged way too harshly and with set up with high expectations...

Is he worth what his salary has called for last season and what he is due this season? No.

But what his drafting and his role has meant to the Saints and this offense is undeniable and underappreciated...

While I loved the Beerman's story, Bush's chapter is not quite finished and guys like Hughes and Mel Gray (which I admit I forgotten though he did leave via FA) were probably more impactful than Lewis...
