Shaun Rogers Addition Certain To Boost New Orleans Saints Defense

It’s fourth and goal from the eight yard line, the Saints are clinging to a 24 – 17 lead over the Tom Brady led New EnglandPatriots with thirty-three seconds left on the clock.
Brady takes the snap in the shotgun to allow more time to find one of his four receivers in the endzone for a potential game tying score, instead defensive tackle Shaun Rogers splits a double team and drops Brady for a seven yard loss.
The Saints win and the Patriots lose, all because of the teams newest acquisition, Sean Rogers.
Okay, so the above scenario didn’t really happen in the real life NFL, but it did take place in the virtual world of Madden NFL 11. The point is Rogers is sure to improve the Saints defense from day one.
Critics will say that Rogers, who turns 32 on March 12th, is too old to be as effect as he once was and will also cite his decreasing production inside the Cleveland Browns 3-4 scheme.
Saints fans will say otherwise considering they surely remember how disruptive he was during last years game against the Browns.
While Rogers only accounted for one tackle and never officially sacked Drew Brees he applied pressure consistently, collapsed the pocket and was a handful for the Saints offensive line.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

He'll be part of a platoon, playing on first and second downs...

Keeping him "fresh" throughout the game; Green Bay has done this with their DL rotation and have had success...

Good point.

Remi isn't an all-pro, but he does flash occasionally. Having Remi as the 3rd man in the rotation will help Rogers and just as importantly help Remi, not to mention Ellis.

I also don't think we've finished addressing the position.

Can't wait to see what kind of impact he makes.

Ellis had a good year last year, think he got about 6 sacks or something like that. Watch the plays he's in, he always gets blocked by 2 guys, usually the centre and left guard.
Now....Shaun rodgers will take that double team away from ellis, Sed can beat one guy on his own, not to mention that Rodgers is also just a great space filler!

It is a nice thought and would be an excellent finish to a game. But this is the most likely

because that is exactly what Rogers did for Cleveland Brown in their win v Patriots. Statistically though it shows Rogers with only 2 tackles (and 1 penalty).

I am pleased to have this guy on board.

I agree that he is going to open things up for Ellis. Rogers has great ability when he stays motivated. I think finally playing on a winning football team is going to keep him that way. He may not put up great statistics, but it is what he will do for the other members of the defensive line that will show up the most. Ellis has the potential to beat almost anyone if he's only got one person blocking him. Rogers will make sure that happens a lot opening Sed up for possibly a double-digit sack season...if there is one.

People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.
