Sean Payton on Role of Chris Ivory.

Sean Payton on Chris Ivory's potential role: "I see him as a first- to second-down strong back. I don’t necessarily see him on the field on third down. I see him in short-yardage, goal-line situations. You know, his rookie season was exceptional.

Now, the key is staying healthy."

I see him straight trucking people no matter what down it is, assuming he is healthy. If he can avoid getting hurt, I saw glimpses of him being able to do everything last season, aside from blocking, he needs work on that.

If he can hold onto the football...

73Saint 03-31-2011 03:01 PM

Not to be a negative nelly, but what makes him so intriguing is exactly what scares me most about him...Total disregard for his body. How do you un-teach that? I love the guy, but the way he runs right through people concerns me b/c that seems to be exactly why he keeps getting hurt.

he's a human oxymoron

saintsfan1976 03-31-2011 03:34 PM

What bothers me is that he didn't do squat in college, he had fumble-itis, showed flashes of skill, then ended the season on IR.

I see him as a guy who can absolutely fulfill Payton's vision for him

IF

He can hold onto the football. And stay healthy.

He'll be great in the rotation.

GeauxForMore 03-31-2011 06:22 PM

Agreed he's a rotation back. So him being healthy relies on the other backs staying healthy. Limit everyone's touches and we will get the best production from our backs.

He was fun to watch when he played. Love to see backs running thru people.

this is why if Ingram is available in the 1st round.... I say we take him.

If we have too, I say we offer Devery or who ever as trade bait to get him.

I really feel he is the RB we need. We need to stop all of this, picking guys up off the street that "MAY" have a little something left in the tank, crap.

I have to disagree. Our RBs will be healthy, and between the 4 of them, including Lynell I think we can do good things. Our defense was clearly the weak link. We had no trouble scoring points, we had trouble stopping them.
