Question to ponder

Posed this question on another board

I am old enough, Sky Mike says I am a dinosaur, to remember when I would say, All i want is to MAKE IT to the Super Bowl... hell I'm old enough to remember when I would say all I want is a WINNING SEASON

So the question

Would you be satisfied if we make it to the Super Bowl and happen to lose... don't flame... just a question

I have been pondering all morning and my answer is yes, I would be satisfied.,.. albeit disappointed

So what say you????

Yes, I would be okay if we make it back to another SB and lose.

Why, you may ask? Well, I feel it would validate the Saints. This organization will be a "Winner" for a long time to come. It took this team so long to get out of the "Joke of the NFL" status. Now, the Saints are considered to be front runners in the NFC. I for one and thrilled with that.

So yes, I am satisfied. However, that doesn't mean I don't want them to try each and every play.

Tough question. There are so many things that go into a football game, that it would be hard to say if I would be satisfied. If we went and played our best, the coaches made the best play calling, if we did everything we could do to win the game but lost to a better team, yes I would be satisfied. If we went and made a bunch of bonehead plays, the coaching and play calling sucked and we just fiddle farted around on the field, and we lost to a clearly inferior team, (can you say Seattle) when I know we could play better, no, I would not be satisfied.

It would be satisfying however, to know that we went to a Superbowl again and the Falcons did not. :)

I would be satisfied if we made it deep into the playoffs... even if it wasn't the Superbowl. All I've ever wanted was for us to become a perennial winner... with the hopes of possibly winning a Superbowl or two. String together some more winning seasons in a row and I pretty much got what I always wanted.

I'm also happy making it to the second season...satisfied even. This is not to say I wouldn't want us to win it all. I think about the Braves of the 90s. Every year you knew they had a shot. You didn't 'wonder'. You knew. Of course they only got the one, but they were on the cusp for more than a decade. That's pretty sweet.

As long as Brees is taking the snaps we have a shot, and having a realistic shot it all you can ask or hope for.

Babe Ruth didn't hit a home run everytime. In fact, most of the great home run hitter struck out more than a few times.

My point is... there is always going to be another team playing just as hard on the other side of the football, and the breaks aren't always going to bounce your way. You have to be able to cope with being competitive and maybe winning the whole thing.

Still... any football play on the Saints shouldn't feel that way but as a fan you should.

i'd have to go with hulka on this one i would be elated to make it to the big show and lose if we played bonified ball and not a cardinals, seahawk caper.

Same with me...For me it would depend entirely upon the game and the run to the Super Bowl. If the Saints lost a Super Bowl, but looked pretty good doing it, I'd totally kick back from the TV at the end and be like, ehhh, maybe it's just not our night.

Like for example, the famous final play of the Titans/Rams Super bowl...if you were a Titans fan, you gotta feel for those poor guys losing like that... the moment must have been terrible for Titans fans. But later it's like, hey, you guys just came up one play short, dang that was close, what an amazing year they had... I'd actually feel pretty okay if a Saints season ended something like that, in hindsight.

Or the Patriots/Giants Super Bowl, that was a really great game with the crazy face mask catch and everything.... To me, there's no shame in losing a Super Bowl like that.

Then the flip side of that, is something like going 14-2 and then being blown out 34-19 by the weak Broncos - that would suck to be that team in a Super Bowl, and I honestly don't really worry about that kind of thing happening too much with the current Saints.

However, I am still CONVINCED that a huge part of the fiasco that happened in Seattle, happened because of the boneheaded decision to not kick the ball deep to Seattle on kickoffs -- those pooch kicks gave the Seahawks great field position, and let their fairly mediocre offense back into the game, right when it was 10-0 and the Saints had gotten that interception, and were really about to step on the Seahawks neck and run away with it. I think it was a screwball coaching decision to give the Seahawks a short field, 2 or 3 times, which kept the Seahawks able to get back in the game, and started the whole snowball effect, or the domino effect, that ended up leading to the Marshawn Lynch ridiculous Football Follies run.

So -- if something like THAT happened, in a Super Bowl, where it was obvious to me that Payton's cutesy, brainiac "over-thinking" side was costing the team the game because of crucial stupid decisions, or if there was a meltdown like that run that was really glaring and obvious, I would probably be furious.

I wouldn't totally blame Sean for the pooch kicks, the special teams coach was dumb enough to think it up first and then run it by Sean, now it looks stupid but remember the Saints coverage teams had more holes in it than a block of Swiss cheese and for some reason Leon Washington put Deion type fear into the coaching staff
