Da'Quan Bowers is there at #24. What do you do?

With his recent knee surgery he could very well be there. With guys like Heyward, Austin, Taylor and Clayborn all likely to be available also - what would you do? Pick or pass?

Everyone knows my desire for a speedy, edge-rusher for the d line. I don't know if I could pass on Bowers. Even though he's had surgery, he's still young and powerful enough to recover.

Danno 04-28-2011 08:35 AM

He may miss the entire 2011 season, but if he's as good as many say it may be worth it to take him and redshirt him this year.

papz 04-28-2011 08:44 AM

You take him. The contracts at 24 are reasonable and if you can land top 5 talent that late in the first round, you take him and deal with the risk. The reward far outweighs the monetary risk.

TheDeuce 04-28-2011 09:35 AM

I would like to know a little more about the injury... there are rumors about him needing microfracture surgery, which could be a serious problem. If that's not the case, you absolutely take him. Guy is a beast.

BRSaintsFan 04-28-2011 09:36 AM

Take him...there were no questions with his ability until after the knee concerns. Now there is talk that no one attempted to block him on many of his sacks, etc, etc. If your medical staff thinks the knee will hold up, then he is a no brainer at 24.

SmashMouth 04-28-2011 10:08 AM

Has the knee been checked out yet ... prolly so.... and if gtg.... then .....shwing!

Luda34 04-28-2011 10:38 AM

I don't think he will get pass Tampa at the 20 pick but if he's there get him. I agree with Danno if he's not 100% let him sit the whole year and he will be ready for next year.

darstep 04-28-2011 10:57 AM

Pass. We are talking about knees, and in this case, a 8-10 million dollar knee...re-habbing and then carrying 280lbs stop-and-go and having to press 350 ongoing just to keep up with his competition, and ALWAYS having people going low and rolling around at his feet. I say we pass. Too many other "healthy choices" to roll the dice like that in the first round. There are no guarantees or injury free passes for selecting a healthy guy. I just don't see using our 1st round pick on a position that requires speed, strength and leverage in a 280+ package on a nagging knee.

BRSaintsFan 04-28-2011 02:22 PM

Top 5 talent at 24 is worth the risk. You pay your medical team very good money to poke and prod and determine the health risk of these players. If the team has deemed Bowers suitable, then at 24 you would be crazy not to select or at least entertain trade offers from the team who wants to take him at that pick.

Well your right I wouldn't take him now since Will Smith will be gone for the first four game of the season now after that Starcap crap. We need to draft someone who is going to start this year.

Danno 04-28-2011 02:39 PM

I don't think we're gonna take a measley 4-game suspension into account when selecting a 1st round draft pick.

There should be plenty of last-gasp vets available that could fill in nicely for 3 or 4 games if neccessary.

I doubt a rookie picked 24th is going to start in place of Smith. It'll probably be Galette, Charleston, Wilkerson or Brown before they throw a rookie in there.

saintsfan1976 04-28-2011 05:09 PM

Jj watt will b gone. And who said out medical staff has the best credentials to thus point? Shickey, PT, Fujita, staff infections ..... Helloooooo

papz 04-28-2011 05:11 PM

I think Charleston fills in and does a pretty good job.

LMAO!!!

If our med staff said a questionable player was OK, I'd run like hell.

saintsfan1976 04-28-2011 09:35 PM

Well here we are... bowers is available at 23!!!

FatCitySaint 04-28-2011 09:49 PM

What do you do you ask.....obviously you pick Cam Jordan lol!!!!

RaginCajun83 04-28-2011 10:00 PM

Looks like Loomis said no thanks to Bowers

darstep 04-28-2011 10:13 PM

Jordan is injury free and has been groomed for success in the NFL. Jordan is versatile which works good for Williams and for me.

saintsfan1976 04-29-2011 08:13 AM

You know the more I watch Bowers, the more I get the feeling he will be a head-case... Just an observation.

papz 04-29-2011 08:35 AM

Would have been happy with a Bowers pick, but I'm just as excited with Jordan and him being injury free. Wise, safe choice.

saintsfan1976 04-29-2011 08:47 AM

Gotta admit papz - my hear dropped a little when Tampa took Clayborn
