Question Question for the Forum

Is Reggie Bush's lack of consistent production, mainly as a RB, due to:

A. Reggie himself, not reading defenses properly, trying to run up the middle instead of getting to the outside, or vice-versa;

B. Reggie still thinking, after 4 years in the league, that he can out-run an NFL LB/DB;

C. Reggie not taking a sure 3-4 gain, but trying to do too much and losing yards;

D.Reggie is not being used properly by Payton.

I'd go with C. He's always swinging for the fence. Early on, he had a fair amount of success with that approach and I think it would have continued if not for the injury down time last year. He could probably be a more consistent RB if he would take what is given but what's the fun in that when at any given time, with a good block, or a little space he's gone.

None of the above. (imo)
While some of those points listed are at least partially true, Bush's main lack of production has been his inability to stay healthy.
The 2006 season was his most productive over-all season in which he played all 16 regular season games. Since then, he's either playing with an injury or coming back from an injury.

I would say "C".

Reason being that when he first tried this, he got away with it because defences hadn't sussed him out, but now they almost expect him to try and go for big yardage every time, so they call a play to lock him up so he gets little yardage or, as was stated in the question, actually runs for a loss!

Still like to watch him play though and he has had some great moments for us in the past, so I hope he stays healthy and stays a Saint!

A. Reggie himself, not reading defenses properly, trying to run up the middle instead of getting to the outside, or vice-versa;
He does have lousy vision, but I’ve never seen him choose up the middle over trying to bust it outside

B. Reggie still thinking, after 4 years in the league, that he can out-run an NFL LB/DB;
Perhaps part of the problem, he’s not nearly as fast as he thinks he is.

C. Reggie not taking a sure 3-4 gain, but trying to do too much and losing yards;
Again, lack of vision. The 3-4 yard loss by retreating is obvious to most RB’s with good vision. I think he’s scared of contact and it forces him backwards to avoid it.

D.Reggie is not being used properly by Payton.
Payton has tried every way possible. Lets face it, Reggie just isn’t that good. If he played for any other coach he’d be virtually insignificant.
Oh wait, he already is.
