Is Meachem ready for a breakout season?

Matt Williamson of Scouts, Inc. smells a breakout season for Robert Meachem.

Marques Colston has had five knee surgeries in five years and projects to lose targets this season. Meachem, a 2007 first-round pick, is a big-play threat that struggled with an ankle injury last year. Expected to be 100 percent for training camp, Meachem will be well worth a flier in fantasy leagues.

It's an ESPN Insider piece which I don't have access to. But here's a clip from rotoworld.

Could this finally be the year for him? It's been a long time coming.

meachum is due, and i can see him with huge numbers for the saints and fantasy teams.

I thought he broke-out when he swiped the ball away from that Skins LB'er and took it to the house the other way...

but to answer your question...is Meachem ready for a break-out season?

I am sure he is ready...whether or not it happens is another story. :)

Haahaa! I just noticed Brees totally face planted #99, I think it's Andre Carter. Is that even legal?

Beastmode 06-27-2011 10:55 AM

It's around 4 sec mark

I'm not sure about a break out season but Ingram should open up the play action enough to give Meachem and Henderson more opportunities.

Is he from Tennessee? If he is that would explain his lack of production. For whatever reason the Vols just don't seem to translate well to the NFL.jmo Anyway, I sure hope that he is ready.......it's time, and our running game should load the box and open up our receivers.

I was there! The refs did a booth review of the play. I knew that it would go the Saints way when the stadium didn't show the replay on the big screen while the refs were watching the play under the hood. Redskins fans next to me knew it too.
Before the ref came out to announce his decision, all us Saints fans were high-fiving and the "Who dat" chants started rolling. That was the turning point as the Saints were behind and made a terrific comeback.

Speedy Ron 06-28-2011 01:24 PM

isnt this the same question that comes up each year?

congrats on seeing an amazing game live. You know, in the old days, all our games were exciting like that, -- I remember, except we were the team on the losing end of the miracle.

I invite you all to look at the Super Bowl Season video again, and see how many times Meachem pops up with a big play.

Ashley 06-28-2011 05:10 PM

I'm waiting for AA. Will we finally see this kid play this year.?.

jcp026 06-28-2011 08:35 PM

Has to stay healthy to do that.

saintsfan1976 06-28-2011 08:52 PM

Depends on what you deem a "breakout season"

He's a COG in the wheel of the NFL's top offense.

If he grabs 50 for 800yards and 10 TD's then that's about what he should do. Stay healthy, score on a couple of end-around plays, stretch the D and catch a bomb when he's open. That's his role.

I'm not sure how he could have a huge season stat wise or any other player for that matter.

dizzle88 06-29-2011 03:56 AM

The addition of Mark Ingram, and having a backfield of Ivory, Ingram, Pierre and possibly Bush will open up the deep ball for meachem, it wasn't there last year because we had no running game so opponents took away the deep ball all the time.
Ingram will do some damage between the tackles, ivory is a flat out beast aswell he just needs to stay healthy!

He is a perfect #2 WR, which he shares with Devery Henderson, and he still puts up those numbers.

If Colston or Henderson missed significant time, Meachem's numbers would skyrocket.

jeanpierre 07-07-2011 07:36 AM

If your good your numbers and PT should skyrocket already...

He's a bust...

Out of condition as a Rookie...

Potential...wasted...

Speedy Ron 07-07-2011 10:59 AM

i wouldnt say bust. when hes healthy he is a pretty good player. but yea i guess i see where he is a bust. looking at the draft, the next few guys taken after him havent set the world on fire. Sid Rice would have been a better pickup who was taken a bunch of picks after him
