That is absolutely ridiculous. tell me what job allows you to go back and argue your retirement after retirement. There is money being thrown around and negotiations and now people think they can come in and get their piece. B...S !!!!!
Brees is 100% correct. Talk about freakin crybabies. Hey man...you should have been smarter with your money.

I'm with Brees on this one (and not because he's my hubby :p) These players that are squandering their NFL money are doing this to themselves. No one is FORCING these players to buy every 100K car out there. No one is FORCING these players to knock up every woman they meet. Learn to manage your money better, and when you retire from the NFL, you can live comfortably.

Even the military has restrictions on entiltlements based on dates.
I understand some of their points but rules are rules. Things evolve and in 20 years the benefits to players will likely be better than what they are now but many of them won't qualify to receive those benefits. I wish Brees wouldn't get caught up in this petty mess. No matter what he says to them, even if he's 100% right, they will still be pissed off.

Quote:

Drew Brees - There’s some guys out there that have made bad business decisions. They took their pensions early because they never went out and got a job. They’ve had a couple divorces and they’re making payments to this place and that place. And that’s why they don’t have money. And they’re coming to us to basically say, ‘Please make up for my bad judgment.’”

Quote:

"Because it's important to me," Brees said. "I feel like it's part of my responsibility. And I understand the sacrifices that former players made for me. I take that as a tremendous amount of responsibility to represent not only those guys, but the guys that I play with now and the guys that are going to come after me that I might not ever know or meet."

He's yapping out of both sides of his yap.

Travis Henry has like 10 or 11 children by that same number of women. I don't blame Drew at all for his statement.

The bottom line is they are trying to set up their own version of welfare!

What I really love is these stupid news feeds I get about the #1 draft picks having to live at home and get a job until they get paid. WOW!

Welcome to reality and the world we all live in everday to pay YOUR salaries.

Welcome to speaking your mind and standing up for what you believe in. Everyone who has amounted to anything throughout history has done so much to the chagrin of their critics.

Also, these older players should get over themselves. I think there should be more healthcare help, but that's about it, and I'm not saying full coverage for every player across the board, just more help. The league could offer positions to old players to help supplement the lack of income once retired, but nothing should just be given. They're fortunate enough to be handed physical gifts that even allow the to play the game and get rich and famous, and it should be their responsibility to judge life accordingly and plan with their millions to sustain a comfortable life. It's beyond absurd, and highly offensive for them to equate themselves to the misfortunate that actually NEED welfare and charity.
