There’s some guys out there that have made bad business decisions. They took their pensions early because they never went out and got a job. They’ve had a couple divorces and they’re making payments to this place and that place. And that’s why they don’t have money. And they’re coming to us to basically say, ‘Please make up for my bad judgment.’” The retired players claim that this quote constitutes “antipathy for NFL retirees” from Brees.
Ouch lol! Hit 'em where it hurts why don't you Drew.

The truth sucks don't it? That's what happens when you have 9 kids from 8 different women, drive Bentley's you don't need or can afford, live in million dollar mansions with no one in it but yourself, have 100k earrings that make you look retarded, so on and so forth. The smart retired players saved up, invested, took into coaching, became analyst, etc. It's not their fault you blew all your money on hookers and blow... you get the point.

You can't protect stupid, and you definitely shouldn't be forced to compensate it.

Wel thats really the recent retirees that actually had that kinda money they coulkd spend. But if you talk about the old players who are 60-70 years old now, they didn't earn a whole lot of money most of them and NFL back then was a lot more violent and surgeries they got at the time was a lot worse.

I've said from the beginning of the lockout that pensions should be increased and health insurance(in some form) given to retired players... especially in those instances. I'm just pointing out how some of these dumb decisions they make come back and haunt them.

The league typically provide all sorts of programs to help them deal with life after football. A lot of these players don't take advantage of them and just sit on their money until it all runs dry. Just because they retired at 30 doesn't make them handicapped. Welcome to the real world and get a job.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Most likly nobody but look for example on head injuries, back then nobody knew the long term effects. I think it would be allright for the NFL to help the old timers that had 18 surgeries on knees and hips and played for a couple of years.

But say you are 35 and wasted all your mone NEWSFLASH BUDDY you have a great college education unless you were really stupid and didn't take it serious while in school and then you don't deserve any help.

Here is my two cents..

If you retire from the Army as an E7...everytime a pay raise happens, your base pay in retire matches that of the current pay scale.

Now, I understand that the "Ole Timers" didn't have the contracts that the newer guys have had. But if these guys haven't had a job since they retired....then that's their fault. Now before anyone says I'm a heartless pig. Hear me out.

The NFL needs to come up with a "Tri-Care" type of insurance. If you do 20 years in the military, you have it for life. Now, I understand that anyone that performs 20 years in the NFL is like finding a unicorn. (Favre is the exeption). I say 5-10-15-20 years in the NFL gets you "So much" coverage. The more years you play, the lower your cost is. If you have a player that does less than 5 years, he has the option to pay for the insurance.

Injured players. If you have a career ending injury due to football.... you have coverage for life.

The NFL should set this up like the Veterans Affairs. Vets are paid on a percentage as well as thier medical coverage. It can't be that hard.

Now, for those gucci players that blantly pissed their money away. If the NFL proves this is the case, "Oh well", we put your butt through the NFL Rookie Symposium and WE TOLD YOU THEN.....DON"T BLOW YOUR MONEY!!!!!! DON'T GET 10 WOMEN PREGNANT AND HAVE 12 KIDS!!!! DON'T OWN 32 BENTLEYS WITH 45" WHEELS!!!!!!

I have no sympothy for those types of guys who blow their money and when it is gone they look to others as if to say, "Give me more because I screwed up". Yes, I'm am refering to the NFL Player and not the general public who do the exact same thing to the working people of America.

The NFL as a whole makes enough money in 10 years to take care of this program for 50 years. Why has this never been started?
