Q & A with Roman Harper

Five years after being the 43rd overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Roman Harper has proven to be one of the best strong safeties in the league.

When fans think of him, they think of a tackling machine who excels close to the line of scrimmage. While it’s true that he finished near the top of the league’s safety group in 2010 in both stops and QB disruptions, there’s much more to him than that, especially off the field.

I recently talked with Roman about his free agent status, his “Harper’s Hope” foundation, and the impact Greg Williams has had on the New Orleans defense.

Whichever team is lucky enough to have his services is getting a man who is thoughtful, dedicated, and mature … and he can play the game.
And we have some masterminds here that actually think he sucks?

He comes across very well spoken and has a realistic(lots of common sense) approach to everything. Without him back, there would be a big hole back there in our secondary. In my opinion, he would be our most important signing this offseason.

Maybe not THE most important, but he's on a very short list.

Crawfishin...

LOL!!!

I say that because Drew's under contract. I find that though Moore is Brees' safety blanket, he is replaceable. As of now, Nicks is still a RFA... but that could change with the CBA. While he's the best FA on our team, I'd have still go with Harper because there's an underwhelming market and he's the best one out there. When Jenkins slides into the nickle on certain formations, it'll look very ugly back there. But as I make a case for Harper, the same can be done for a few other players. Regardless, I'm sure the majority will be back.

Sharper was back there. He also had a bad game, as did most everyone on defense that day. You might wanna actually watch the games you tape.

Did you tape the 16 regular season games, or just the playoff game?

Sorry Strat, I don't know a single person that doesn't think he had a bad game against Seattle. I also know of no one who doesn't think the entire defense sucked that day. How is that sugarcoating anything? You must not know what sugarcoating means.

The 16 games before that, he played very well (with the possible exception of the Baltimore game).

What exactly are you trying to say? Does one or two bad games per season EXPOSE a player? What about Brees in the Cleveland game? Does he suck because of that game? Or did he simply have a bad game?

im curious what you had to say about harpers coverage skills before that game? what do you have to say about his 2 pro bowl selections? who is available that could possibly upgrade him since you hate him so much? its cool i can wait

youve been pretty bad at ripping on individual players after a few bad plays or an off day and pretending like you knew all along. funny that you are also quick to crown a new guy coming in with no experience. its funny that you didnt answer any of my questions from my last post. like i said tho... i can wait. oh and id love for you to find any posts from any season where i ragged on harper. he didnt have a great game against seattle but maybe if you actually watched the game instead of trying to get the last word in all the time youd know what harpers responsibilities were that game with the injuries to our secondary and maybe youd back off our pro bowl strong safety a tid bit

Maverick2299 07-08-2011 04:42 PM

Harper sucked in coverage against Seattle, but some of the blame goes on the front 4.....They got no pressure on the QB...NONE. Not even ed reed, or Revis can cover one on one all game without pressure on the QB. Also playing SS is not all about coverage, while you are right that is not his best attribute, he makes up it for in other areas. Tracy porter is great in coverage..but is a bad tackler and gets hurt alot. Should we up grade him? I don't see the saints replacing Harper for another 3 or 4 years...if the re-sign him

AlaskaSaints 07-09-2011 04:03 PM

Oh, yeah, well...

I WAS THERE! AND I had it recorded! LOL

Without those three touchdowns the Saints were Superbowl Champs again last year... I mean, since we're being all theoretical and all...
