Stinchcomb finally gets his chance

As far as debuts go, Jon Stinchcomb's initial appearance as an NFL lineman was less than spectacular.

The Saints second-round draft choice, who was inactive for the first nine games, saw his first action with the starting offensive line when he substituted for injured starter Spencer Folau at right guard in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

"It felt good to finally get out there," said Stinchcomb, a 6-foot-5, 302-pound lineman. "They needed me to step up and come in the game. That's my job. That's what I'm supposed to be able to do."

In the four games before Sunday, Stinchcomb had played solely on special teams. Before that, he was inactive.

I thought he did pretty well for a Rookie getting his 1st action against a perinneal all-pro.

IMHO: He\'ll eventually pan out, but I agree with most, 2nd round was too high for this guy when we needed so much help elsewhere.

My question is where does that leave Fontenot for next year? If Stinch is part of the future, it\'s been stated that he can\'t play tackle, it would appear that both guard positions are tied up for the future, and that leaves the center position, which is currently being maintained by an aging, yet pro bowl alternate, veteran.

I think there are just as many that think he can play tackle as those that think he can\'t.
He\'s a very hard worker, has great technique, and is extremely intelligent, but needs to get stronger in the lower body. He has slightly skinny legs for a tackle.

I personally think (as many others do) he has the drive to get even bigger and stronger.

I\'ve also heard that he would make a pretty good center. I don\'t know if he can or can\'t but its what I\'ve heard. Either way he\'s gonna be a back-up next year also while he gets bigger and stronger and learns all 5 positions.

Worst case, I can see him taking over for Fontenot in 2005.

To tell you the truth I was one of the guys who hoped the saint\'s had picked up Rashean Mathis (cornerback -Jacksonville Jaguars). It will be very interesting to watch both of them play Sunday

Didn\'t Jacox play center in San Diego? I\'ve been thinking he would take over that spot when Fontenot retires. That would leave another opening at guard for Stinchcomb if he can\'t play tackle.

Rich,
I don\'t think so

LT Wayne Gandy LG LeCharles Bently C Kendyll Jacox RG Montrae Holland RT Victor Riley. Plus, I believe the saints will draft a tackle in the 1st or second round.
