LB Will Herring agrees to a three-year deal with the #Saints, according to his agent George Mavrikes. He can play both SLB and WLB.

Herring, last played for the Seahawks.

Furious now! @miketripletttp: First new #Saints signing: added former Seahawks LB Will Herring to a 3-year deal:

Saints agreed to terms with OLB Will Herring on a three-year contract.

Herring has made just seven starts in his first four NFL seasons, operating mostly as Seattle's fourth linebacker. He should enter a competition with Jonathan Casillas, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, and Martez Wilson at each of the outside spots. We'd avoid the Saints' linebackers in IDP leagues aside from MLB Jon Vilma.

Interesting...

I know nothing about this guy; can anyone fill me in?

papz 07-27-2011 01:36 PM

He played for Auburn... which is why his name kept ringing a bell for me. Other than that, I can't say I know much about him.

. . .

LB Will Herring, Age: 27
The skinny: The Auburn University product was one of the more versatile linebackers for Seattle last season, with the ability to play all three linebacker positions. However, Herring is looking for a starting role, and could be targeted by another team looking for linebacker help like Chicago or St. Louis. Herring played a lot for Seattle in passing situations, finishing with 36 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception. A fifth-round draft choice in 2007 by Seattle, Herring has started seven games over his four-year career with the club, and also has been a stalwart on special teams.
Stay or go? The Seahawks would like to have him back, but he’ll likely get a better offer to start elsewhere.
See ya Scott.

ok we have at least, a stud at special teams. a bright student of the game that can help with leadership on coverages. i like

papz 07-27-2011 01:58 PM

You know... we found Shanle out of nowhere in '06 and he gave us multiple solid years. This could be another low key solid addition to our squad.

Cruize 07-27-2011 01:58 PM

Cheaper than Shanle. Wants to start. Versatile. Special teams ace.

Faster than Shanle? He'll be under my microscope.

Alaska

papz 07-27-2011 02:33 PM

That's going to be one hell of a microscope since there's no NFL package for you!

saintsfan1976 07-27-2011 08:42 PM

That wasn't nice, funny though... LOL

RaginCajun83 07-27-2011 09:01 PM

Don't know him but if this signing sends Shanle packing then I love it

Rugby Saint II 07-27-2011 09:03 PM

He can play all three LB'er spots which means he has value immediately. Hopefully he's a student of the game and really thinks football. If so then GW ought to be able to utilize him pretty quickly.
I like that he is versatile and plays on special teams too. We sure could use an upgrade on the Special teams.

QBREES9 07-27-2011 09:12 PM

Lets see what he can do when given a chance.

Still have that game?
Deleted that game from my DVR so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what he can do in Black and Gold.
