Coaching staff Poll??

I'd like to know which one of the following scenieros you think will happen. I don't want to know what you WANT to happen, but what you think WILL happen. Keep in mind that Haslett has several years left on his contract.

A.) Haslett and all assistants stay.

B.) Haslett and all assistants are fired.

C.) Haslett stays and Mike McCarthy and Rick Venturi are fired.

D.) Haslett stays and only Mike McCarthy is fired.

E.) Haslett stays and only Rick Venturi is fired.

One last question.

Do you think the Saints will be aggresive in signing top free agents in the offseason?

Yes or No?

I like AI2K4W\'s answer to the first question. At least that seems like a plausible scenario to me. I don\'t think any of them will be \"fired\". Of course, I make this statement contingent on what happens in the last game, since I think that could have some impact on the decision to retain/fire the coaches (at least from the team\'s point of view).

As far as the second question goes, I\'m not sure. I think the answer I would give would depend on a couple of factors: 1. what is our cap room next year, 2. how much Howard and Boo will cost (we did waste some money on a backup QB for next year... and I mean Bouman, NOT our boy AB), 3. what kind of bidding war might go on for some of those corners, and 4. who actually becomes available (i.e. who doesn\'t simply resign with their current team). I think most of this information is available, but, I\'m not going to lie, I\'m too lazy to look into it right now. My hunch is that we will pursue at least one of those corners (hopefully with some successs), but who we sign depends somewhat on the players we try to get (i.e. they may simply choose not to come here, despite good offers). I think if we want to sign any of the great FAs (cough... Al Wilson... cough), we need to be aggressive right away to show other FAs that we mean business and coming here is a good idea.

D. Haslet will stay. I think he\'ll have to offer up one of his coordinators to placate the fans. Since the offense definitely underachieved this year, Haslet\'s decision should be an easy one.

I do not think that we will make a big splash in free agency. We will sign a couple of \"projects\" and maybe one aging veteran for \"leadership\" on the defensive side of the ball.

8-8 in 2004? Here we come!

I have a pretty cynical view today.

A. They all stay.
Haslett blames it on injuries and keeps all assistants in a crapstorm of controversy.

The only way this changes is for Buffalo to come get Haz from us.

I was just wondering what actual fans thought about the coahing situation, becuase I think fams CAN influence Benson\'s decision. You really have to wonder how Benson views the coaching staff and their ability to get the job done.

I have no doubt that Mr. Benson is a very intelligent person. I\'m sure he see\'s that there is a problem. The question is, what does he think the problem is and who does he feel is responsible for the problem.

Benson could even hold himself partly responsible for firing Meuller and putting Jim Haslett in a bad situation. There could even be some truth to that. I\'m not trying to excuse Haslett because Benson got rid of Meuller, but Benson might feel some responsibility and his solution (spin) might be to tell the fans that he his hiring a new GM to get this thing fixed.

I think when you take everything into consideration that firing Haslett is out of the question for Tom Benson. It\'s too much money to be lost by firing him. I do think that getting rid of the coordinators is in play. Now, whether Haslett will allow that to happen is another question.

I think there will be some major announcement at some point, but I don\'t think it will be getting rid of Haslett. I think we will be looking at getting a new GM and Benson making promises. We shall see............

I don\'t think we\'ll be aggressive in signing free agents because of the payroll situation at the present time and the money we\'ll have to pay out to keep key players.

I would go with Cassady\'s F. Haslett himself must feel that he needs a fresh start as he has obviously not earned the respect of his players and can\'t get through to them.
Benson won\'t pay him money for not coaching the team, but he will be quite happy to let him go if some other team shows interest (and realistically that team can only be the Bills).

No top free agents again, but maybe they\'ll pay top money for an average player again?

If we get a new coach I don\'t think next year has to be a rebuilding year. Don\'t change too much and get your team ready to play and focused - it may just be enough.

A or E would be my guess. McCarthy probably doesn\'t want the heat and will look to college. Venturi will be asked to step down and be a linebackers coach again. He\'ll either A) realize that he won\'t be more than that anywhere else in the pros and take it like a man, or B) get on a high-horse, resign, and either be forced into retirement or coach at some D2 or D3 school.

No. They haven\'t taken a shot at ANY big name free agent at a position they needed to fill since Haslett got here. If he is here, that won\'t change.

I don\'t know what\'s worse --- McCarthy\'s play calling or his overall offensive philosopy. As a side note, our OL is vastly over-rated. IMO, the other top backs have far better running lanes. Deuce seems to work harder for his yards by comparison.

Venturi --- personnel does matter but in three years, does anyone think this guy is the solution?

SMH at the reports that Haz may fire some position coaches and leave the braintrust intact.

I hope for Haz\'s sake he wins next year. If not, he\'s gone for sure.
