Uh Oh, Ivory has surgery...

@jvarneyTPJames Varney

Chris Ivory had sports hernia surgery; he's been in Philly last 2 days

@jeffduncantpJeff Duncan

Saints waived WE Michael Gallatas. Also, RB Chris Ivory underwent sports hernia surgery in Philly today. Its a 3-week rehab, Payton said.

The Dude 08-05-2011 06:47 PM

We are set anyway. Ivory was just a luxury. Hopefully he will be back next year, but I think we will be alright.

The Dude 08-05-2011 06:49 PM

How the hell did he get a sports hernia? Working out I assume?

saints1234 08-05-2011 06:56 PM

can we go get Lynell Hamilton back i really loved him he was such a tough runner

I second that. And yes I think we can. That Joque Bell guy is said to be doing very well though.

Budsdrinker 08-05-2011 07:09 PM

Payton said the hernia surgery coincides with his rehab from foot surgery and should be back in 3 weeks

WhoDat!656 08-05-2011 07:10 PM

He wouldnt be put on IR because of it would he?

strato 08-05-2011 07:13 PM

Not yet...

With the depth we have and the fact that his other injury has such a long recovery time he could have likely wound up on IR anyway. I see PUP list best case scenario for Ivory this year.

Crusader 08-05-2011 07:23 PM

If its a 3 week rehab period then why would they IR him? That just makes no sense. Even if he would miss a game or two to start the season we have the depth to handle that. He should be fine and going full speed by the end of camp if his foot don't bother him.

3 week rehab for the hernia, he was still rehabing from the surgery he had in the offseason, which many players never fully recover from. Cassillias (sp.) had the same thing last year and is just now coming back and his position does not take the same wear and tear as the RB position. Even before this sports hernia thing came up it was being reported that Ivory would most likely go on the PUP list.

If Ivory can't make it back for start of season I have two words for you ... Ricky - Williams

homerj07 08-05-2011 07:48 PM

How many times have you heard of a sports hernia & then the player taking a lot longer to heal then 3 weeks or 4 or 6 or the season!?!

Once they have the surgery about 3 weeks. It's when they say pulled groin that it takes 6 weeks for being misdiagnosed

No... we really don't. We all like him, hes a great story and all, but he could not get through a game without tweaking something. Not one game. He saved our ass last year, but this year we are stacked. And hey, if midseason the unthinkable happens and we do happen to get hit with injuries at that position, he will be around if he is healthy enough. PUP is the best thing we could do with Ivory. Gives him time to heal, and keeps other teams away from him for a while.

Actually what has happened is that what doctors calls sports hernia has been expanded what previously might hav been misdiagnosed as a pulled groin or such now is properly labled a sports hernia and so on.

4everSaint 08-06-2011 06:06 AM

Ingram and Thomas will get it done
