stay with your family...

Come win another ring Sharp.

Euphoria 08-07-2011 08:21 AM

He'll be a Saint!!!

He is just holding out for money and avoiding as much of camp as he can. Save himself for the season.

Even if he doesn't have much less to start. What he'll add from the side line as a mentor will be really help our secondary. They should offer him a coaching job!

I agree...on nfl.com free agency tracker they have the Saints logo next to his name saying the Saints are interested/planning to resign him. Welcome back Sharp!

Maverick2299 08-07-2011 07:28 PM

I think he is trying to get a deal where he is a starter for the whole year, not a guy to fill a void for a while. If he has to play back-up he will play for the saints.

FireVenturi 08-07-2011 08:05 PM

I would take him back as a role player, no question!!

Danno 08-07-2011 08:08 PM

He'll definitely be a great back-up, but he'll hurt our special teams.

I would hope they wouldn't make him play special teams..we have plenty guys that can do that...

|Mitch| 08-07-2011 08:11 PM

I'd take him back as a mentor/coach and that's about it. His roster spot can be better used...

You missed the point. He'd replace one of the younger safeties that do play special teams. The fact that he doesn't play special teams is the point.

Maverick2299 08-07-2011 08:12 PM

Maybe with the lack of being a starter...we will.

As I type this...I know he wont.

strato 08-07-2011 08:13 PM

No i got the point Danno...but he could still be on the team...

The why did you say you hoped they wouldn't make him play special teams?

This may make the most sense. Let him coach until he is needed to play. :D

IIRC, coaches are not eligible to play the same year they are hired as a coach.

What Danno meant was that if Sharper is re-signed, then chances are he will take the spot of one of the younger ST oriented safeties, and because he can't/shouldn't play ST, then it would be a hit to our special teams trying to fill that spot.

I know what he meant:p....

homerj07 08-08-2011 07:22 AM

Sharper is a year removed from his surgery & he will be a great mentor for the younger players. 09 was a fluke for Sharper - we all know it & so does he!

Interesting .... I think Sharper hangs around until an injury happens .... then he takes a roster spot.

09? A fluke? It was definitely above his typical output, but IIRC, Sharper is the active leader in interceptions and has more than almost anybody in NFL history.

He's a baller, just old. I trust the FO to do the right thing with him, they know more about his level of play than I do. I will admit that we are dangerously thin at safety. Besides Jenkins and Harper, who do we have?

Not to mention Gregg Williams wasn't afraid to use him like he should be used, roaming around the back field chasing the ball down. Before he got here he was pretty much in 2-deep zones and man coverage, which offenses learned how to play around him. Then of course last year he was hurt.
Sharper probably has a good 2 years left in the tank, but the Saints obviously want Jenkins to start sooner rather than later, because if he signs somewhere else to start and we have Sharper, then we are screwed in 2014 or 2015 when he is retiring or declining.

We signed a versatile safety from San Diego Paul Oliver. He's basically the equivalent of Usama Young, but a bit more developed. He started 8 games last year.

We also still have Prioleaux, Amaya, Isa, and McDaniel.

Sharper has more ints in one season than these guys combined...lol

So does Ronnie Lott. Should we sign him?

Oh, and in 2010, Sharper = 0 picks

You don't evaluate a player based on how good he was 2 years ago. This is 2011. He may not have any gas left in the tank.

I'll trust Loomis and GW on this one. I'd imagine they know if he has anything left. If he does have some gas left, we should sign him.

Useless facts Strat. Deuce has more yards than all of our running backs combined. That doesn't mean we should resign him does it?

FinSaint 08-08-2011 10:15 AM

My opinion is - not that it really matters - that if Sharper can be brought on without jeopardizing the spots of

Amaya, McDaniel and Oliver on the roster then 100% yes. But if that isn't possible then 100% no. I would

like to see him in the coaching staff whether it's now or down the road.

This point is naturally based on Jenkins and Harper having the starting positions.

Again Mr GM...Sharper is still in the mix. right?..the old guys you keep bringing up are retired...Sharper is not...and i would take him over any of the guys you listed...so i guess your demoted and i will be GM..lol

papz 08-08-2011 10:41 AM

It's gotten really old. Block each other for the time being, please.

Versatile? Cool. Usama Young equivalent? Horrific. That guy was terrible, I sure hope that Oliver is better in coverage than Young was.

I'll take a stance on this one: sign Sharper.
