I only agree with 1 of the 5 reasons. That would be #4, the NFC South is going to be tough this year...

It's not a bad article...he has a point.

But with that said you have to go on, you cant live in the past.

If it continues into the new season...then I will be pessimistic.

He does make valid points. I mean if you have to find holes in this team, those would be it, except the one about running backs. I do think these will all be non issues though. What he said about Brees DOES make sense. I think our Defense and running game will be good enough this year so even if Brees does take a step back we are still contenders.

What he said about Brees didn't make much sense at all to me. Brees is 32...so what??? Favre is 41. Why would there be any reason to expect he would be on the decline? Last year he threw 22 pics...but without knowing the exact stats...we all know the O was out of balance most of the year.

Brees has proven that he comes back stronger. And with our O line, his brains and athleticism, there is NO reason to believe he is any where NEAR a decline.

This is just further evidence that the season needs to just hurry up and start; the sports writers are running out of things to write about.

NOt that I agree with this but to play devils advocate Farve is a RARE exception to the rule. Brees has had a MAJOR surgery some never recover from (I had the exact same surgery 2 years ago and Im still limited in what I do, but I am not pro athlete). Most Qbs start to decline around 32, so if you go by what history tells us the guy has a point.

Now. All of those interceptions came from him forcing the ball OR a reciever blowing their route or screwing up in some capacity. Most of those interceptions were not errant passes like you would see from a declining QB. Also Drew played on a hurt ankle last year and without a running game had to put the entire offense on his back.

The Tea Party Response to Mr. Banks Five Theses:

#5 Hartley definitely showed poor play last year; most of that though was due to Superbowl Hangover and a shortened offseason training regiment; Sean Payton woke his ass up and got his attention and he came through the other side; in fact, I would argue that he now should have better nerves from the clutch kicking on the Superbowl run to "we can't cut your ass the next day" lesson of the NFL

#4 Everyone is undefeated in August; and even Bengals fans actually believe they can turn the corner; then we play the games; the Bucs had a last place schedule last season - now what happens when you get beat up every week? the Panthers have a rookie quarterback, new coach, new scheme with no offseason due to the lockout - how's that working for you know Mr. Richardson? The Falcons traded nearly their entire draft to add a complementary receiver that should be great - but it cost them in other areas - and their chief rival, the Saints, found out this week that they have three starting cornerbacks with more help on the way...and, the Falcons, though they choked last season, have the 1st place schedule...

#3 The Saints linebackers could always use an upgrade; but how good are they gonna be with the Heavy Lunch Bunch now occupying blockers? Did you take that into account when assessing Shanle and other linebackers gameplay last season(s)?

#2 Did you forget Drew Brees took a cheap-shot early in the season to his knee and only after offseason sx and rehab did he disclose his injury affected his planting motion while throwing?

#1 The Saints added an early first round grade running back to its stable of runners; replaced Reggie Bush with a near clone of itself; allowed its down and distance running back time to get healthy; and lo and behold Coach Payton has found yet another diamond-in-the-rough at RB during training camp.

This was too easy...

Here are the REAL 5 reasons to be pessimistic about the Saints 2011 season.

#1 - You are a Panthers fan, and you know Cam doesn't stand a chance, but God might miracle you a playoff berth.

#2 - You are a Bucs fan, and you know your team isn't good enough yet, but you are counting on the magic of Disney World to waft over your way so all your dreams can come true.

#3 - You are a Falcons fan, and you know winning the division last year was a lucky fluke, but you are hoping against hope you are wrong.

#4 - You are an Eagles fan, and you are deluded enough to believe your own hype.

#5 - You are a Colts fan, and you think the deal Peyton made with the Devil to get to the Super Bowl will keep the Saints from marching in and keeping him out of the promised land... Again...
