New Orleans

With the Saints missing the playoffs again this season, there figures to be a lot of fingers pointed at head coach Jim Haslett and his coaching staff this offseason. Sources say even owner Tom Benson is becoming frustrated with the underachieving ways of the team, although there is a good chance there won’t be a major shake-up of the coaching staff. The way we hear it, Haslett, offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Rick Venturi likely will be retained, but there are a couple of areas that could see changes. Considering the disappointment of the receiving corps this season, WR coach Hub Alexander could retire to avoid being fired, and DL coach Sam Clancy might not be retained. If that duo is let go, Benson likely will give the rest of the coaching staff one more season to prove they deserve their jobs.

One question - when they go 10-6 or so next season, will it be because the coaching staff has proved that they are worth their keep, or will it be because we are so ridiculously deep with talent that anything else would constitute complete and utter failure?

Haslett is hurting this team. The Saints will make the playoffs next year, with or without Haslett. That\'s just my opinion, but... it pisses me off that Haslett will get a pass and get to claim that he is a good coach when one of the 5 most talented teams in the league next season takes HIM (and not the other way around) to the playoffs. A different coach and we might have a shot at a Super Bowl in the next couple of years. Instead they\'ll keep Haslett and we MAY have a shot at the playoffs or a division title. Mr. Benson must be seeing something I\'m not, b/c as of right now, I think I\'ve seen just about everything I need to in order to know that Haslett is an underachiever as a head coach... or at least his team underachieves with him at the reigns.

What do you think our record would be with Parcells at the helm, and the same players?
I say 11-5.

This year or next? I mean, if you put a coach that can get the most out of his players instead of the least at the helm I see no reason why this team couldn\'t be 12-4 THIS season. Think I\'m nuts - try this, give me at least one Carolina game, Philly, Tampa, Jacksonville. There\'s 12-4. Don\'t like that, how about the first Carolina game? One play on special teams and we win that one. The Seattle game? We take the ball and score in Tennessee after the safety instead of give it back to them, and that could be a win too.

A good coach and this team is good for at least 3 more wins this season and is a legitimate contender right now. The same is true for next year as well.

Unless there are some major coaching changes, a year from now the Saints will be singing the same tune as the last 3 seasons.

JM is very correct.

A year from now we\'re going to be on this board arguing about why we missed the playoffs and hearing from a very vocal group about why it isn\'t Brooks\' fault for running out of bounds and stopping the clock, fumbling, throwing a pick or whatever else he does to cap off a career statistical year and yet still snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Until then, I\'m going to set up a pool for which Georgia lineman we take this spring.

Dude, you\'re a joke. Brooks make\'s one mistake in which he may have been slammed out of bounds and your spill continues.

Could it be that we\'ve had too much turnover to begin with? How will a \"major\" coaching shakeup benifit this club? The team is young and a new system would just set the team further back on both sides of the ball. Who out there is better? The Saints were three bad/missed calls away from an 11-5 season.

Let\'s just fire everybody! [/sarcasm]

Fella, you are going to get your wish. So keep right on shilling for Haz, Venturi, McCarthy and Brooks. I\'m going to be interested to see how your ilk rationalizes 6-10, 7-9 or 8-8 next season.

I guess I should expect that from a Texican, great recruits, huge hype, owned by Oklahoma.

I agree with WhoDat. Yeah, you heard right. Jim Haslett is getting a free pass and it\'s ridiculous. I think Tom Benson is a complete moron. Jim Haslett hasn\'t been reponsible for the wins but he has been responsible for a lot of the losses. I know there are many that will say if he is responsible for the losses, then he should get credit for the wins, but the Saints have won despite Haslett. And, just like WhoDat says, if they make the playoffs next year, Haslett will have very little to do with that.

My only hope for the team is that we are very agressive in free agency. If we don\'t sign some quality free agents, I\'ll have to disagree with WhoDat and say we will not make the playoffs next year...........
