The New Orleans Saints cautious optimism regarding knee injuries suffered by cornerback Johnny Patrick and running back Joique Bell in last week's preseason opening win over San Francisco proved justified, according to Coach Sean Payton.

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said there is some better news on the team's injuries.

Both players suffered ligament sprains and will not require surgery, Payton said after practice Sunday.
Payton also took issue with a suggestion the two players may be held out of the rest of the 2011 preaseason, saying both will be scratched for Saturday's game at Houston but that he would make no predictions on the timetable of their return beyond that.
Patrick, a third-round draft pick out of Louisville, has looked strong during training camp and was seeing considerable time on the field. He left the Superdome Saturday night on a golf cart, but Payton said following the win that initial reports were that Patrick had not torn a ligament or suffered similar serious damage.
Bell, too, has had a standout camp and Payton said he was a notable bright spot for New Orleans against the 49ers, where Bell carried 9 times for 52 yards.

Patrick is a lock to make the 53, but Bell needs to come out strong and keep fighting. Hope they both come back strong.

Patrick needs to get healthy ASAP because he will see the field a whole lot this year. He looked really good this game and seems to be playing with great speed on the field.

Not only do we have alot of tough cuts coming BUT I feel like a lot of teams are just waiting for us to let some people loose so thay can pick them up!! It would be hard to get (Hell's) Bell onto the practice squad.

Was I asleep? Do I have a mental block? I don't remember Bell getting injured. I remember Patrick's injury, but for the life of me, I can't remember Bell's.
