Bryant McKennie still available

Just a thought. He still hasn't been picked up as far as I know. He's a solid veteran, and would definately be an upgrade. One year deal?

Talented, but one of the biggest d-bags in the league. He wouldn't fit in very well around here.

jcp026 08-15-2011 08:08 PM

Maybe. I'm not sure Strief and Brown are ready.

SaintPauly 08-15-2011 08:09 PM

Wait a minute.... Why is he a D-bag? What did i miss?

alexonfyre 08-15-2011 08:13 PM

He is a braggadocious loud mouth who is always in trouble and showed up to camp weighing 400 pounds this year, which is why he was released in the first place. His community service is superficial at best and he is showing no signs of being like Anthony Hargrove or Jeremy Shockey.

Jack Vegas 08-15-2011 08:14 PM

He sucks and is a douchebag to boot. See: getting kicked out of the Pro Bowl a few years ago.

I'd rather have Max Starks. He's only 29 and has championship pedigree and no real injury problems. He would fit in immediately.

Actually, Strief is plenty ready enough for starting at RT. He will do fine this year. It's Brown who is still light years away from being ready it seems...

SaintPauly 08-15-2011 08:36 PM

He's 6'8" tall. Weighing 400 pounds isn't really that bad for a guy that tall.

Maverick2299 08-15-2011 09:00 PM

It would not surprise me if the saints brought him to check him out.

No it's pretty bad. He'd get eaten alive on every snap at that weight.

QBREES9 08-15-2011 09:10 PM

I'd stay with the young guys and Strief is plenty ready. When he has been called upon in the past he's has come up big.

400 pounds is bad for someone of any height. His playing weight is 360.

QBREES9 08-15-2011 09:13 PM

Thats a big boy.

Or would he just be eating on every snap?

Never mind that, he wouldn't fit in the uniform.

Minny fans were relieved to see him go as he wasn't good at all last year, and he was in a way even more ridiculed than Stinchcomb.

Supposedly he has a rap artist career going on in Miami, which he was more interested in than working out this off-season. So I would say a big NO to signing him!

Well... he could eat the opposing player.

neugey 08-15-2011 09:54 PM

We must pass on McKinnie ... he has indeed ate his way into Sullivanland I've heard it firsthand from the Vikings fans I work with

Maybe an on-field buffet included in his contract. "Will block for food.....lots of food."

When you look at his salary figures remember

1.95mm does not mean "$1,950,000" but "1.95 million mcdoubles."
The cap value works out the same. It is mainly a semantic issue.

SaintPauly 08-16-2011 12:44 AM

Well ok, nevermind mckinnie. Is there anyone else still available? Just in case someone goes down?

As for FA OTs my top 3 to at least consider would probably be:

  • Max Starks, 7 years with the Steelers, 29 so some years left if there are no health concerns.

  • Shaun Andrews, 7 years of experience also (first 6 with the Eagles and last one with the Giants), 28 years old, has battled some depression in the past.

  • Nick Kaczur, 6 years with the Patriots, but didn't play at all last year, so there might be a health problem, at 32 he's the oldest of the bunch.

I'm not saying that any of them would definitely be better than Strief, but they are just some still without a team... all were released by their teams.

fhotard 08-16-2011 07:13 AM

All of my friends from MN were very happy to see him go. He's lazy. Way too many times, a play is busted, then you notice, "Oh there's McKinnie just standing there doing nothing."

TheDeuce 08-16-2011 09:19 AM

400 pounds, lazy, dangerously high cholesterol level... no thanks.

homerj07 08-16-2011 11:04 AM

Loomis & SP will not bring a known cancer into the fold. They may look at options that are "projects" like Hargrove but they wont bring in someone like this

the-commish 08-16-2011 12:44 PM

The lazy bum! No thanks. If AP doesn't need him to pave the way in the run game, we don't need him here.

Considering that AP is one of the more dominant RBs in the league - I think overall the best RB - this would not be a measuring stick I'd use. ;-)

lumm0x 08-17-2011 05:27 PM

The guy is lazy, attitude issues, is a turnstile LT against the pass rush. He has some size to be effective in the run game, but plays with no grit or passion to achieve that. Waste of roster space. Strief knows our scheme, has been effective when he spelled in. We need a depth signing at T. I think next year may be our time to re-invest a 1st rounder into the position.

papz 08-17-2011 05:32 PM

I believe we sent that pick off for Ingram. Bushrod will be here for a few more years so we should be fine barring injury... while Brown is the future. We do need some depth, but that's why there's free agency.

Hutchinson, Guard, is why AP is all-world...

Hutchinson, that same guard, is why Shaun Alexander and Walther Jones were ProBowlers...

Couldn't agree more... I absolutely think Hutchinson is one of the best at that position at least in the modern era. Still, my point was that AP is a beast of a human and a head above any and all of the Saints' RBs, so it's better not to look at something he has done as something they could do.

We have a stable locker room.......let's keep it that way. Just say NO to McKennie.

You said it! Lets coach up Brown and Strief an Black. No need for lazy malcontents.

VillainAgain 08-19-2011 01:02 PM

Hell flushin NO! Hes way to fat N.O grubb would make him heavier! Hes a jerk, and hes not dedicated, the man shows up to camp weighing in at 400 lbs? 408 lbs to be accurate hes to self absorbed. Theres no way he didnt expect the lockout to end he should have been trainging

neugey 08-24-2011 11:34 AM

McKinnie signed by Baltimore, pending physical -

Bryant McKinnie, Baltimore Ravens agree to two-year deal - ESPN

From Minnesota to Baltimore: That earthquake you felt yesterday was McKinnie stepping off the plane.

beau13 08-24-2011 01:53 PM

Why not bring Stinch back as a back up if the knee is any better. He knows the scheme.

Please don't shoot me!!

Based on what I've read on this issue, and from both sides... it seems that the decision was not entirely one-sided, but that Stinch himself felt not up to par and, therefore, was OK with the Saints' decision.

Again, this is the understanding that I've come to, but it could naturally be false in some or all aspects of it. If he is not healthy enough to play, why would bringing him up as a backup - while taking up a much needed roster spot - be a good idea?
