Report: Smith suspension could be reduced

DE Will Smith may have his StarCaps-related suspension reduced to two games, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The report also stated that the suspension may not occur at the start of the season. All of this is potential positive news as Smith is having a very good camp so far.

With the meltdown we've been having around here, this is some much needed good news.

I hope he doesn't get suspended, if reports are accurate he will be in the backfield in a hurry this year, planting matt ryan on the ground!

pants on the ground!

Reduced is good. It SHOULD be altogether eliminated.

I'll take it.:p

The whole affair should be shelved. No one intended to break the rules and the NFL had some complicity. The man up solution is to have both parties make a donation to the retired players fund.

The NFL's failure to do anything for so long - to not let the players & teams know anything is completely unfair, moronic & ridiculous

Beastmode 08-23-2011 07:34 PM

I hope he can appeal it again with the new CBA. There has to be some wiggle room in there somewhere. What would really be funny is if it went on for a couple more years and all the players are retired. The NFL would have spent god knows how much for nothing and would think hard about pursuing something frivalous at best ever again.

Thats a pretty good suggestion after all this time has passed.

Agree! How do you penalize some active players with suspension if others have already retired... as in Pat Williams of the Vikes?

Maverick2299 08-24-2011 07:42 AM

The most interesting part, it may get delayed into the middle of the year or next year.

Isn't there a statute of limitations on this stuff? It's just been too long.

Mardigras9 08-24-2011 09:24 AM

First two games in December would be good.

I was watching the Saints training camp in Oxnard footage on NFLN late last night. There was one point where Will Smith finished a drill, then, while in full pads ran to the goal post and jumped, hanging on the cross bars. I know lots of folks do that, but as big and athletic as he is, all I could think about was how it's a pity he's having such a good training camp; if in fact he has to sit out the first 4 games of the season.

So, I hope this news is true...would be the first bit of good news in a while, esp. considering all the injuries we are racking up.
