New Orleans Saints appear set with Jonathon Amaya as No. 3 safety

OXNARD, CALIF. - The Saints will get their most valuable look yet at new backup safety Jonathon Amaya on Sunday night in Oakland. He's expected to start in place of injured veteran Roman Harper against the Raiders.
But by all indications, the second-year pro has already done enough to earn a spot as the team's No. 3 safety.
In other words, don't expect the Saints to bring back veteran Darren Sharper, who remains unsigned two weeks before the season opener.
Although Sharper said he is still working out and considers the Saints a possible destination among other teams, the Saints appear set with Amaya as their primary backup behind starters Harper and Malcolm Jenkins.
"He's instinctive, No. 1," Saints Coach Sean Payton said of Amaya, who was acquired from the Miami Dolphins as part of the Reggie Bush trade. "He's got real good instincts. He's a guy that plays well in the kicking game. You know, he does a lot of things well. And that starts with special teams but also playing the strong safety position.
"He's pretty smart. Each day it seems like the ball finds him and he makes a play. So he's doing well."
Amaya clearly isn't taking anything for granted, though.

This kid may be what we're looking for as our #3 safety. Speed, aggression, and an A+ special teams player.

He couldn't do any worse than Oliver did, could he?
