Saints to sign K John Kasay?

John Kasay likely to sign with New Orleans Saints, source says

Former Carolina Panthers placekicker John Kasay is apparently not going to stay unemployed for long.

According to an NFL source of mine, Kasay is on his way to likely signing a deal with the New Orleans Saints to be their placekicker.

Kasay, who was on the Panthers' roster from their inaugural year of 1995 until being released recently in favor of Olindo Mare, has long had very good success kicking in the New Orleans Superdome.

If the contract goes through, Kasay will be kicking against his former team, the Panthers, twice a season.

More on this developing story soon will be posted on this blog.

Keeping two kickers is gonna cost a good player his job. I hate using two roster spots for a kicker, but we probably have no choice.

strato 08-30-2011 09:18 AM

Good move...we need a kicker with two legs...

Ashley 08-30-2011 09:22 AM

My god, the injuries.

Luda34 08-30-2011 09:41 AM

Don't get me wrong we need a kicker but isn't he like 62 years old.

Fleured 08-30-2011 09:46 AM

I think he's 61. He said his checks don't come in the mail for another four years.

strato 08-30-2011 09:55 AM

How can a PK hurt themselves KICKING A FRIPPEN EXTRA POINT!!

He should be beaten on general principle!!

strato 08-30-2011 10:56 AM

Yes, but the roster spot!! It's still frustrating.

Mardigras9 08-30-2011 11:03 AM

As long as he's money. We all remember how damaging a missed kick can be in the long run with Atlanta last year.

Put Hartley on IR..

FinSaint 08-30-2011 11:11 AM

Make Morstead kick instead of Hartley until he's healthy enough to play again!

I mean he already does the kick offs, so he could easily do at least the extra point kicks. If it means losing a roster spot to sign Kasey, I would rather have the Saints go for it on 4th downs until they get inside the range at which Morstead is comfortable in making the FG.

He might be able to make 30 yard kicks, which about the same as Kasey has left in his foot.

If they really have to sign another kicker I would like that to be someone who has the leg strength to make 40+ or even 50 yard kicks if the need be.

John Kasey 2010 - 25/29, long 55
Hartley 2010 - 20/25, long 52

Kasey just can't KO anymore, but we don't need that.

He still has leg strength ..hit a 55 yarder last year ..Made 25 of 29 and averages 57 on KOs...

John Kasay, K for the Carolina Panthers at NFL.com

OK. Maybe I just remember wrong. My recollection was that his leg strength didn't seem to be the same during his stint with the Saints, but I'll retract my earlier statement if I was wrong.

strato 08-30-2011 11:33 AM

He never played for the Saints just the Seahags and Panties

With the new rule change ..i think he can do KOs..

His leg flew off..took out a few Rayda fans..lol

Fleured 08-30-2011 12:05 PM

Will Kasay wanna prove something to Rivera after getting chumped for (...wait for the payoff..) Olindo Mare? http://209.85.12.234/7361/20/emo/Drumroll.gif

MatthewT 08-30-2011 12:20 PM

Despite the negative on losing Harley, it is nice to have Kasey join the team. He still has it and should be reliable for however long the Saints need him.

Rugby Saint II 08-30-2011 12:58 PM

I saw Payton telling the Raiders coach that he went for 2 points because his kicker was hurt. I didn't understand the apparent seriousness of this injury.

Ashley 08-30-2011 12:59 PM

I'm just looking for some rope, and a place to hang out. I'm sick of hearing every other day on here somebody else is hurt. Christ he's a kicker (Hartley), it's not like someone ran over his foot in a parking lot!

Man oh man... This is a definite proof of that I'm going crazy with the thesis work. http://yoursmiles.org/msmile/fun/m0106.gif

I thought we were talking about Carney all this time... http://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/no/t2609.gif

Sorry for wasting your time with my stupid rambling!

darstep 08-30-2011 01:29 PM

Hurt kickers need love too. He pulled something loose trying to lay someone out on kick coverage. Poor thing. We should send nurse Goodbody over there to help whip him back in shape. He's our leading post-season scorer, and the post-season is coming back around again.

What a coincidence....in their fantasies, the Saints have them as their PK as well.

Saints sign PK John Kasay...

@Official_SaintsNew Orleans Saints

The Saints have agreed to terms with veteran PK John Kasay.

dizzle88 08-30-2011 02:54 PM

Garretts Injury must be pretty "bad" then.....kickers ey....lmao

O well, i think this guy is money most of the time so he's a welcome addition, big leg on him to make the long field goals

Turbo Saint 08-30-2011 02:54 PM

kasay is money...i've hated him for a long time being on the panthers.

he definitely would not hurt us if hartley is down for an extended period of time.

biloxi-indian 08-30-2011 02:56 PM

My hope is all we need Kasay for is extra points! :)

Rugby Saint II 08-30-2011 03:16 PM

Kasey is hopefully a short term thing. We've invested a lot in this kicker, we've rolled with him and stood by him before giving him a long contract. Coaches are willing to take chances knowing they can walk away with three points, so a good kicker influences the coaches calls.jmho

AlaskaSaints 08-30-2011 03:34 PM

I simply have sworn at Hartley too many times. I'm gonna take this opportunity to jump OFF the Hartley bandwagon and put my full faith and credit behind Kasey.

Sorry for jumping ship so easily, but I've got a great memory and Hartley just doesn't do it for me.

AlaskaSaints 08-30-2011 03:40 PM

I mean, didn't the Falcons host the Packers at home in the playoffs SOLELY because of Garrett Hartley?

Think about that...

So you have no memory of the Vikings, NFC Championship game, in overtime?

Maybe the rest of the team could've also done things differently so that he wouldn't have had to kick in the first place?!

But I have to agree that I wasn't very happy after that missed kick.
